Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Interesting clip. Confirms some of the issues with these boards i think. I just got back from Tahiti. I took a 5'11, 20, 3 nugget and surfed it a few different spots, the best being at 8ft vairao. The nugget did what it was supposed to in the barreling conditions. It found the pocket and stuck there...

Re: Modern Planing Hulls

Hi pirate, i saw one of your boards on this site, looks awesome you made it right? What dims is your 5"2? Sounds like it covers 95% of east coast surf! in your opinion how important is it to go super short and a little under volume with these boards. Cheers Dims on my 5'2 are 5'2 x 19 x 2 5/16 carr...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Geoff did write one comment on sways making sure that it was clear he is the only guy currently making the McCoy nugget. There seemed to be some people claiming to make nuggets and that they were the same thing.

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Doesn't help does it  seriously - we need some footage of neil cameron and some of those byron surfers who rip it up on mccoys. He was trying those turns like it was a thruster....

Re: Modern Planing Hulls

I'm loving my V4 - but the koolaid over on the 'other' forum has died in the ass majorly  A combination of customer service issues and firewire have combined to become the dead hooker in the closet...stinking fifty pages up majorly. I actually think many of them believed they were part of the...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

Jam, i've ridden a few of the designs you've mentioned. Tried a traditional mini-simmons and found it didn't grovel well and was pretty average in pitching conditions. Mark Pridmore's Dim-Sim was a really solid all-round simmons design and it actually performed exceedingly well from 1ft mush to over...

Re: When do you prefer quad/thruster/five fin set up

I have a tomo v4, but prefer it as a thruster thus far. It goes almost as quick as the quads i've ridden. The main issue i'm having with it as a quad is i only have the Yu quad set-up. While it is great for down the line speed (especially in overhead waves), it is too sticky through turns and lacks ...

Re: "the shire" real life in cronulla?

Not too much middle class anything in Cronulla - all upper class now. The middle class are out past the National Park in Engadine :D The show is a clever money grabber. I grew up in Cronulla, and there are many who are racist, but so are lots of people in lots of places. I spent some time in Jersey ...

Re: Tahiti

Thanks Steve :D Hopefully Nick will chime in - am hoping to surf all around the place, but would love to know where to set-up base. North swells may not wrap into Teahupoo and the south though? Your tip on the family guest houses has already taken the price down significantly! I'm certainly going - ...

Re: Tahiti

No idea - it has all come out of nowhere and i don't know anybody who's been, so i've been reading the net, but there is a lot of contradictory info (go figure...). Would you recommend anywhere in particular? I know Teahupoo has several breaks around it, but we may have to go in Jan and apparently t...

Re: Tahiti

Thanks Steve - will explore both options. Maybe try five days each at those locations. Do you think a surf guide is necessary?
