Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Yes, little I considered just that shape for my last trip over there. The thing I reckon with beachball characteristics of short, wide, fat boards is that it puts the emphasis back on how well tuned the rails and rocker are. Basically as a cliche the characteristics mean going up the wave backwards ...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Yeah, not an all rounder though. I had a fishcuit that was phenomenal sometimes but just too limited. I went through a brief time of thinking they could be good for me but I've got plenty of boards that surf little beachies well. Not what I'm Interested in. I reckon steering an average surfer onto s...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Yes Pet, I reckon they must try to move product in many surf shops. I had a young guy try yo push me towards a 6' biscuit one time. Now particularly since I have had a bit of a trip into fatter, wider and a bit shorter boards since then I can only scratch my head and wonder what he thought I was goi...

Re: mctavish boards

I've had a 7'11" epoxy carver for years and years so getting this carver fish felt just like stepping onto a hotted up version of that without the minimal bit. I had been riding a quad fish a bit too before that so I feel very comfortable with the general attitude required to enjoy it. It goes very ...

Re: Teahupoo Contest

Great passage in Tom Wolfes novel A Man in Full about horse breeding. I guess it's one area that its easy to practise. Don't know if whacking off an elephant would be considered as a preliminary exercise. It would seem a major achievement in itself if you were working in that field. Bit like mountai...

Bo bo, now I know your going all Greenough on this but surely a lid covers the same territory much more easily .e.g. You dont have to pump the fcuker up.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Marginal. Very reluctant to get dragged down after work. Plenty of learners and log riders. Managed to refrain from cursing too much. Didn't get clobbered. Probably could have had a trim on a mal. Nice little bank underneath it all.

At least Monday felt like surfing for a change.

Re: Teahupoo Contest

Geez fong, more people die on the golf course than on any beach. Heart attacks, stroke, lightning strikes, run over by golf carts, bashed with a five iron it's carnage out there.

I actually like Nicks definition of sport.

Re: Ask Carroll

Speaking of regional styles, I've always thought the Thruster would never have been invented in Queensland. It really grows out of Simons surfing style which carries on a real Nth Beaches approach. Baddy Treloar used to have a somewhat similar approach.
