Re: Crowded point breaks

Move. Two weekends ago I went to a favourite spot with 3 mates. Because my knee is no good, I took photos. After the surf, we talked about travel - questioning why we do it. They'd been surfing quality waves for 3 hours, nobody else within miles, not too far from home or that difficult to get to. Co...

Re: Real or Fake?

If he were still alive, my old man nearly would - sitting in the front of a canoe :!: As kids we had this heavy 3 seater fibreglass canoe. On a family trip to Wilsons Prom I went for a surf in 2-3 ft mostly closing out beachies. Half hour later, the old man paddled out in the canoe. D'head was in th...

The "real" surfer looks like a booger

The guy in the tractor tube looks like Roy. Assessing the hydrodynamic integrity of his fin designs?

Re: Check out Chenggong

More gems. Got a mate who has one of them dunny seats, but his wife won't let him install. If it ever goes in, I'm rolling up for a turd on a sat morn with The Age (everywhere must have the equivalent - the big fat one with all the classifieds). Might be the very thing his missus is baulking at

Re: Tail shape ... what do you prefer?

I reckon most drive to get around/through sections is rider generated. Sure the board has to respond to that front foot acceleration, but most made by good shapers do, don't they? If yes, it then comes down to hold and manouvereability. You want hold, go a round/round pin/pin in that order. Go rever...

Re: Magnesium ... good for ya health?

Super skeptic me will be on this shit soon. I keep waking up about an hour before I want/need to. Mrs recently read some mumbo jumbo about what ails you is related to time of not sleeping. Tried to tell me I drank too much alcohol. WRONG - that would have me awake at about 1 am apparently. Loving th...

Re: Check out Chenggong

Ots, you are a legend. Thanks for taking the time. I'm in the same sort of boat you were. Wouldn't be an exclusive surf trip and my missus is pretty tough when it comes to roughing it, so the odd hard matress here and there is no drama. Good to learn they're all natural footers because I'm a goofy t...

Re: Rescuing people

Don't know about that. Compression is specifically located and I think it would do very little for gas exchange across the lung membrane (O2 in and CO2 out). I could be wrong The level 2 course does teach that compression is more important than rescue breathing, but the breathing is still required t...

Re: Rescuing people

In Hatchy's neck of the woods, some clubbies could be cnuts to the surfers. Flags in front of best bank, inflatable through the line-up. Was still happening in 1995 when I left there Inflatable thing happens where I am now sometimes too, but I think they know not what they do. Just ignorance which i...

Re: Rescuing people

DRSABCD Danger - don't add to it Response - check for it Send - for help Airway - make sure it's open Breathing - check if it's normal CPR - compression more important than air (30 compressions 2 breaths) Defibrillator - if you can get hold of one Without the D, the patient will die. Sad, but true D...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Another great looking board, that Sinistral. I see a surgeon tomorrow about my knee. Hopefully he fixes it soon and I can get back in the surf. Meantime, I have a mate riding one of my boards in the hope he'll want to buy it. When/if he does, I'm getting in touch with JD Like the name. Left handed, ...

Re: Could you swim 1km?

Being a competent swimmer since I was a kid,I had always thought regular surfing was enough that I could swim reasonable distances if required. A few years ago I started swim training for a series of ocean swims they have over here each summer. 1st day in the pool was a real eye opener. I could not ...

Very comprehensive, slowman, thanks for taking the time. Almost feel guilty if I don't end up going, but it seems like it's more than worthy of the effort. Channels also sent me a pm with a bit of info, so I'll publicly thank him whilst I'm at it
