Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

hat said, in the late 70's my mum and dad used to get me to swim out to the boat in the evening at the wrecks at Tangalooma because they were too busy getting pissed with their yachtie mates on the beach and didn't want to row. I've also seen a "thing" come through the anchorage there on dusk that ...

Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

About the only thing we dont agree on is that surfing in areas with large shark populations increases your risk of being bitten. Im no marine biologist but i thought this would be grade 1 stuff. Not to go all Roy, but I don't know where I said that? It stands to reason, I wouldn't argue with it. So...

Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

Bumfluff, I was laughing at the idea that you can predict the likelihood of shark attacks. I've got a degree in marine biology, worked in a shark lab for 2 years which involved catching sharks and rays for research (in the Moreton Bay area), have studied sensory ecology of sharks, am a keen fisherma...

Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

Great news, I'm giong to North Straddie for Easter on a camping trip. I've spent a bit of time around Moreton Bay and have seen some sharks, but are they really that bad on the surf side? Cylinders etc looks nice and the water's warm... what do I do, leave my board at home?! I'll assume it's...

Re: Help > Another Mad Development.

Having worked on both sides of the fence, I'd suggest writing an old-fashioned letter to the minister. They have to provide a written response to them, it pisses off the new fellas in the department who have to write the letters (used to be me :) ) but it raises the profile. Petitions don't typicall...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Hey alakaboo Manly is visited by a large population of daytrippers , many of whom have never seen the ocean before. Its pile off the ferry, stroll down the corso, buy an ice ceam or feed the seagulls a chip and ... do you see what I see i see, the sea. TICK then its back into town on the ferry to s...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Localbogan, you surf at Manly, thought by TourismNSW to be the second most frequently visited beach in NSW.
You think the internet surf reports are why it is crowded.

Not much more needs to be said, really.

anyone still got/using a Radiator 1.5mm steamer?

I know they've been mentioned before, but noone seems to have had one for long before they posted, wanting to know how they hold up.

Will probably pull the trigger anyway, but interested to know if anyone has thoughts

Ha! Nah, the Nugget was a bit beefy for me too. Cheers anyway. Still loving your brown wombat. Haven't used the side bites in it for months - it works so good as a single! ah, I meant the fatbat was too big for me. But true about the nugget too. Will be selling it soon as I can get some pics togeth...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

If there are not too many out and there seems to be a rotating system of people taking it in turns, try to fit in and take your place at the end of the line and you will be included I'm respectful in the water wherever I go, even my own local, but the notion that people form an orderly line and are...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Clackertyjack, you are wise beyond your posts.. I'd love to see that, was thinking about it this arvo actually. What I would also like to see is an ad campaign that says something simple and catchy like "If you can't swim in, don't paddle out". Even though it'll probably make as much difference as t...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Yawn. I don't disagree with the sentiment, I just don't see the point in this topic. By all means explain stuff to people in the lineup, and tell people what the consequences will be of ignoring the rules. But don't think this thread will change anything. Honestly, do you think there are any kooks s...
