Re: When was the last long weekend with swell?

So much for the forecasts and even the reports this morning. Supposed to be flat? Scored lots of nice little shoulder high sets. Little groundswell too so it wasn't weak slop either. One website had all beaches labeled as "desperates only", thanks, it kept the crowds down!

When was the last long weekend with swell?

I've just seen the weekend's forecast. Seems like every long weekend or public holiday we've had for some time now has had little or no swell. Most public holidays including the Christmas and New Years period have been shocking. ANZAC day was epic but that fell on a Saturday. I don't know what to do...

Re: Swine Flu

I tell you how it is a problem. Travel insurance.... Let's say you catch the bloody thing, and you are too crook to go on your expensive pre-paid holiday. Too bad! Travel insurance isn't going to pay up. They don't pay up if the reason for your claim is related directly or indirectly to an epidemic ...

Re: Are all insurers Eti/Mondial?

Hey Fishstick, Last year we had two guests who's boards did not show and one got a TOTAL refund and the other got told to beat it. Hi Shane, The one told to beat it was me. It's not the moolah that's the bother it's trying to find a policy that's actually going to pay up, and after reading se...

Are all insurers Eti/Mondial?

Anyone know what the deal is with all the different travel insurers? I used Suresave last year, I found them a pain in the neck to deal with and they screwed me over on a claim (my co-travellers were compensated by their credit card insurance for the same thing). I'm trying to avoid those guys shoul...

Re: Why do people dry surfboards?

I don't do it, and my car smells like someone pissed in it (so I've been told). Also when I use a boardbag I find the zipper has got dried salt over it and I can't get it open. So it makes sense to do it, but I don't cause I'm a lazy shit, and people complaining about stuff like this makes me all in...

Re: What I like about today's swell is that...

Definitely my biggest waves of 2009 so far yesterday and copped a few on the head. It was messy and choppy as hell but I've forgotten what it's like to have a decent sinus cleansing hold down and a nice long drop. I'd be happy with a lot more of where that came from, despite the quality.

Re: Shark attack at Bondi

I don't think 'mistaken identity' and poor visibility applies when it comes to Bull Sharks. Male Bulls have the highest testosterone levels, more than any other animal. The shark doesn't want to eat you, it's pissed off and you are in it's territory. Same thing as when you enter a back yard with a P...

Re: STUPID ways to ding your board

My brother in law's mistake. Hope he's not reading this.... :D My sister had just bought a brand new board. An hour later at the car park for it's first surf he undid the roof rack strap, the wind promptly picked the board up off the 4WD and slammed it nose first into the tarmac. The poor thing hadn...

Excess baggage fees and deadly fins

I've just booked my flights for Indo again and just started thinking about the excess baggage fees. Last time I chucked all my stuff in my coffin bag with 3 boards (each in their individual day bag) it weighed 30 Kg and I had to pay up on most of my flights. My wheelie coffin bag is 7 Kg when empty ...

Re: Huey

Having grown up in Indo I've always thought it might have been picked up by traveling surfers. Ikan Hiu means shark, and usually the ikan (fish) part is left out. Hiu is pronounced Huey. I can imagine some traveling surfer talking to the local fishermen asking who they think the God or ruler of the ...

Re: porcine canine

I'll have a crack at it: Pig Dog is Schweinehund in German and used to be quite a common swear word. It is similar and as common as the word Bastard in English. In German there is a widely used saying "overcoming your inner pig dog" which means dealing with your fears or apathy to get something done...

Re: Happy New Year!!!

The wave heights in the forecasts are bloody confusing. It's been called 2 foot for the past few days here in Sydney but to me it looks like the real 2 feet as in 60 cm.
I'd call it 1/2 foot

They've still go them Shaun, but only the Manly one is accessible. I guess you need to be a special member or something to use the others (there is no mention of them on the site so it's probably top secret stuff). I really miss the Curly and Long Reef cam they were really handy. I guess it was neve...

Re: Pro Surfers Height and WeightSaw

Didn't it say in this months ASL that being taller is better (ie. Owen Wright)? I don't think being flexible like Kelly Slater doesn't help that much, just enough so he can surf forever. It's not like being able to put your legs over your head will help you do bigger turns... I read something simil...
