Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

Of course theres always the case of that lunatic that went down to Clovelly and speared the old blue gropper there in front of a packed beach of swimmers. He was real popular. If it's the same one I know of, he was also from overseas and had NFI what he'd done. When he was told, he was absolutely d...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

I once got talking with three old fishos at Collaroy who said that if surfers knew how many sharks the fishos see off Long Reef, all the time, and how big they are, then the lineups would be empty between Narrabeen and Nth Head I've done a few low-level flights from Fraser Island down to about Ball...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

Surf ski training on Dec 30, we saw a 2.5 metre shark just inside the tip of Newport Reef (Channel Nine would have had it out around 4m I would reckon). Couldn't get a good enough look to recognise it but probably a bull shark or small tiger. In the next five days, more people came to Newport Beach...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

I'd say that it's a combination of those factors, Steve. Summer spring highs coinciding with peak usage times (both daily and annual), currents bringing baitfish inshore, increased rainfall bringing murky water and nutrients (also bringing fish inshore), I'd guess also more variable barometric press...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

Saw a bloke come swimming in from Cudgen reef with a Wobbie stuck on his forearm. They've got backwards facing teeth, it's pretty hard for them to let go. Came up the beach a bit wobbly and white. The lifeguard just stuck a hose in it's gills and it let go, was safely returned to the water. Said it ...

You're allergic to surf trips. I better take your place.

Another one from Huie. Another keeper. Didn't have any hibiscus, so had to make do with passionfruit. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Xxmq7X83RUk/TwJOWvNbQdI/AAAAAAAAAFo/3acopv3VQl0/s800/DoubleEnderDeck.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QS0Nxi-D4No/TwJORi-LVII/AAAAAAAAAFQ/f8RUG7vMGJw/s800/Do...

Re: the chrissy/new year break....

Camera! I don't know shit about cameras. Steve's suggestion would be great for photos, if you could keep your camera out of the spray. NFW I'd be crossing that rockshelf at high tide if the forecast pans out. To answer your question: Would places like Currimundi, Wurtulla and Maroochydore actually ...

Re: 2+1 boards

...are unreal. As the other guys have alluded to, whether it goes well will have more to do with the board than the fins, IMO. My good wave board is a 2+1, but so is my 'Fark, is it even worth going out?' board... If you are getting a traditional single shape, with the 2 of the 2+1 mainly as trainin...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

GC pointbreak, but not that one. Was teaching a 13 yr old to surf for the first hour, had him getting 5sec rides consistently within 30 mins so that was great to see the stoke. Got some decent ones. Was already overhead and maybe a touch more by mid-morning. Bit of morning sickness, but the building...

Yep, CCs on the money.
I got one too, but mine's for somewhere else and another time, perhaps.
I've got another one that needs dusting off...
