Re: Where did you surf today ?

Rodney Ball..he of the "Clear Sea" label ..used to shape for McGrigors when Ian Goodacre and Barry King were there too. He (Rodney) was a ski instructor I think and had some pretty unique designs with keels and interesting parallel tail shapes that mirrored snow skis to some extent.

Re: RIP Bill Wallace

Yeah my first board was a Wallace too. 7 foot pintail with a thick "pod" , with a double glue up ..an inch apart and a paisley cloth fin too. It had amazing rocker that was almost ridiculous. That was 1967 and it cost me 35 bucks second hand from Bennetts..in their old red brick shop.. before the Di...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah..I watched the Surfabout Contest at the Bower too..i'd jigged school. Was interesting to see how the best in the world rode Winki. I recall Gerry Lopez on his backhand eating it on one take off. But nobody rode Deadmans back then. Barry K actually came to our school and spoke to we stoked groms.

Ric...there are two things I'm happy about as this post represents..... as others have said...1. there are good folks out there and 2... that you're still around the traps.
More travel on your horizon too...very good for the soul

Re: Where did you surf today ?

What time were you out ER?. I watched for 30 mins or so at 8-8.30. Was smoking for sure. Saw one of the best barrels from way behind the keyhole - a guy on his backhand ...so deep. Classic morning and only 3 surf schools with 50 odd red shirted leaners in the shallows. Yesterday was good ...but not ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

8.30 - 9.30 was nice. Alley had some long 2 foot (and a bit more) peelers down to Laceys. By 10 the nthly was feathering in across...didn't see it after that. Too low before that at Clubhouse beachie

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah Rancho...there was a tick on the Currumbin beachie between 9 and 11 that I was there (and again at 4pm when I wasn't in the water) , so I'm guessing it was similar all over. The wind was tending more south as the day moved towards lunch, so the ruffle was more exaggerated, but that's just being...

Re: Ask Carroll

That's a very open, brave and honest piece earlier on Mr Carroll. I often wondered over the previous years whenever the subject was broached in any forum by other members, why/that your opinion was so strident - and short for a man of your wordsmithing capability. Perhaps you've solved that now if i...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Salty...yeah the board turned out fine. As is the case...then things fell apart a tad..and then/now I'm into 7 weeks after a stint at John Flynn with an abdominal op for a hernia, but longer recovery. Am back doing "gentle" recovery now paddling now on a SUP which doesn't stress the belly. Just had ...
