Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Anyone tried the 2011 Oneill Gooru?

There's some good deals on over here in the UK at the mo. Had one a few years back, it was super flexy and light but not the warmest. Could be tempted to get one as a backup though.

Re: G-Land

Cheers fellas. I've got a chance to go April or May next year, so nice to know it's a good time. Hopefully, the whole trip will be two weeks, so I was hoping to do a quick strike over from Bali to G-Land while there and book a few days if there's some swell coming. Last time I was in Indo, you could...

G-Land

Best month for consistent (but not macking) swell and good winds with low crowds?

Camps - Bobbys or Joyo's?

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

My 1st suit, 25yrs ago, was a Tiki! It's a UK company, probably the longest running surf brand over here (since '70s or even earlier I think) Tim from Tiki is good mates with Terry Fitz, hence the link on that site. The suits they have been doing in the last few years have been really good, judging ...

It arrived a couple of days ago but unfortunately the fit isn't quite right... Shame as the rubber was super soft and had a good overall feel to it

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Devon, England.

Surprisingly, it's not the water that is the killer in winter (although it does go down to about 9deg), but more the windchill. Smooth chest panels are good.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Backzips all the way in the winter - chestzips just take too long to get off and with minus air temps here in the winter, getting changed is something you don't want to drag out longer than needed.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

^^ classic! I think you can get away with using some anit-bac washing up liquid then rinsing with fresh water. Also, I just picked up a 100% Yamamoto 2009 model Nineplus 3/2mm fullsuit for £82 from their 'archive' online shop. I think it will probably be too warm for mid-summer here in Blighty...

Re: Mini Simmons

As far as mini-sims go, that board looks spot-on I reckon :D

I think they are often a lot of fun when you first surf one as you simply do not know what to expect and an hour or two later you come away happily stoked

Re: Mini Simmons

I think it depends on other variables, too. For instance, we get a lot of onshore days in the SW of England and very light boards that are also very wide can sometimes chatter and get a bit skittery. My thrusters are generally 4/4/4 with a patch on a regular blank. My fishy boards, inc the Pony are ...

Re: Mini Simmons

That Craig Anderson footage is pretty impressive. Good style on him, that lad 8) Thought I may add my own opinions on a board I own as it's relevant to this thread; I've owned a Larry Mabile White Pony for almost 18 months now and can't see myself getting shot of it any time soon, it's a really fun ...

Ah I see! Thought it was a slightly strange question

That 6fter went for a good price, but not to me... I would have been in the doghouse if I put a winning bid in

Re: Boardies

saw some english guys with steamers, gloves and boots in Bali. They could only surf for about 40 minutes before they got too hot, but the reckoned they tried surfing in boardies and it felt too weird. Probably could have saved a bit on plane tickets. As a Pommie I would like to take this opportunit...

Hmm, probably won't go in the bag... However, I'm in no rush. You got a plan??

Still looking good price-wise, keeping a close eye on it.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Personal opinion from a Pom that has to deal not only with 7deg water in the winter, but biting wind as well; Xcel and West get the job done and last well, certainly a lot of Scottish and Irish crew seem to favour Xcels. However, I reckon if you can get a custom, preferably yamamoto rubber suit, the...

Re: Ripping Pommie

Yeah have to be honest - I prefer solid rail surfing to tricks and would prefer to watch Knox or Neal P Jr do their stuff, although Reubyn is still a solid surfer with a smooth style. Also, being Devil's Advocate, the clips only show him stacking the flip, not the whole wave from start to finish, so...
