Re: So, UV resin for glassing surfboards...

Blank density and sanding, have probably, in my limited experience contributed way more to my issues than using UV catalyst. I use Sunbake UV from shapers in FGI lam resin for the lamination. My cloth is from them too ... 4oz. I glass all boards with 2 x 4oz on the deck and 1 x 4oz on the bottom (pl...

Learning to do my own, that sure has proven interesting ... I've found a connection with the whole process, and weirdly enjoy every step. The sanding is very cathartic for me.

Re: post your modern day sickness

Ok, so the final word on the NPJ - the man just called me himself and we had a good 15 minute chat. The board is 100% handshaped , the lines are from a fly screen gauze he uses to finish the rails off. Neal doesnt always fine sand the rails as he believes the slight grooves allow the resin to sink ...

Re: post your modern day sickness

Hey derailed, I can understand ya being bummed having folked out over $1,000 for a board that still has the machine lines showing ... at that price point, I'd be expecting a top quality finish ... But, as far as the performance goes - it's more about its affects on your mind, than it's ability to in...

Re: Beyond the blue ...

Let's start with the basic. If YOU ask someone how they are, or better still "Are you OK?" that is not the end of the conversation. It's just the start, actually, it's probably more likely not even the most important step ... it's what the person says to you in response, how you hear what is said, ...

Re: Beyond the blue ...

When public figures make headline news and there is some 'blitz' on getting help, well it's all and dandy, but, from my perspective it's all crap. I tried to call lifeline ... have done so, three times, in major distress ... on hold all three occasions. What pulls you back from the edge is an indivi...

Re: why go so short?

because short little stumpy planing hulls are far more efficient speed generating devices ... Correct me. They do not have to be THAT short to work as planning hulls though? Yes, wide and a tad less length than one usually rides, but seeing blokes who are 6ft trying to ride 5'4" boards seems a cycl...
