Re: Ask Carroll

Gee thanks ctd. You hit exactly what I was wondering about. When I was getting organized to go to Bali last time I was checking out where we might like to stay on the east coast and I was kind of surprised to see all these dutch and german surfing lodges cateriong to basically beginners and videos r...

Re: Ask Carroll

Actually been wondering about the take up of surf publications by these new surfers. I mean an adult wouldn't want to read most of the d*ck waving drivel in a lot of mags. Now I could imagine some buying something like White Horses or some of those coffee table books but there also seems to be a who...

Re: Ask Carroll

Just taking the p*ss really. Although I wouldn't have minded being a surf journo with a flexible work schedule today :-D-: I mean on one level its like base jumpers writing off bushwalkers. Unfortunately surfing has the kind of unique distinction of being a place where high level committed for life ...

Re: Ask Carroll

You surf journos are just jaded. The nature of myth is to create a perfect image of something or someone. Continuing to occasionally read Peter Hellers book I find that this dichotomy is well documented. Anyone who starts surfing has to confront the fact that its hard and to succeed you have to be s...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

Actually been working on flexibility and core strength a lot over the past few months. By my standards anyway. I've got a few gizmos that have really helped and I'm increasingly watching my diet. Started the 2:5 regime a couple of weeks ago which seems to have kicked me over the flat spot I had hit ...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

Sorry there Natho but I was being sarcastic. Great if your 38 with no ongoing injuries. A bit different once you pass 50 and every five years past that means an increasing likelihood of old injuries coming back or progressing to something more serious. Its called aging. Yes you can achieve a lot wit...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

See told you so, fongster. Just flog yourself harder in the gym.   Obviously your assessment of what your injuries are and the effect that has on your surfing aren't relevant to these guys. I find it funny this threads in the log section. I can understand the response if you poste...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

If you go the full mal fong those firewires kick a*se in the high performance style. Don't go the increasingly popular flat rockered full old school style till you get your nose riding down. Its the getting back that requires more practice. Having said that where you are is the place to ride them. A...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty

Don't listen to these pr*cks. They just want to get all the waves. :-)( :-)( :-)( Noosa is one of the great mal waves of the world. I've ridden a mal for 20 odd years and had a ball. Ridden it about 4 times in the last year though and have actually gone 6' shorter than usual for the last year. Been ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Morning looked good but was crowded and odd plus plenty of drop ins and out of control behaviour. After replacing the tap for the toilet I went back down to wash myself mainly and had a cracker of a time. Thats whats great about surfing.

I don't make a habit of it but hey like surfing without a legrope in crowds anythings possible these days.

Re: Legropes.

A few variables with chucking my board. Being about to be poleaxed by a thick lip into a coral reef or rock shelf is one good reason. Being about to be speared by an out of control learner is another. The amount of foam in what I'm riding and its ability to duck dive. Big waves   Even ...

Re: Legropes.

Have snapped a string but that's more of an adhok string than a commercial one. Heaps of leggies have snapped at the join with the strap even heavy duty ones. The reason I thought the customs might have cut them open was because I took a nearly new Farking one to bali as a backup and it snapped just...

I really love the fact that some random but sometimes predictable weather patterns can alter my mood in such a major way. Bummer when you miss it though.

Re: Legropes.

I've had a few leggies snap after taking then OS as a spare over the years. I've always thought the customs must have cut them to see if they were full of contraband substances. Anyone had a similar experience?
