Re: Meyerhoffer shortboard
It is only possible to do that on a modern shaped longboard. They are not real longboards and are not surfed like a longboard, they are surfed like a shortboard, totally negating any reason to be riding a longboard other than the rider is lazy and uses the extra length to catch more waves. Traditio...

Re: Meyerhoffer shortboard
Andy, by what epistemological skulduggery do you arrive at that fact? Sure, a manoeuvre first performed and made popular by short borders, and one more rarely performed by longboarders, but when done the degree of difficulty and commitment is higher and the result more spectacular By the way I don't...

Gees, the only good thing about surf forecasts is that they often get it wrong; we don't want accurate ones do we?

Re: Meyerhoffer shortboard
Well, I too was almost provoked to laughter by that design. A few days ago there was a bit of swell (just south of Perth not MR), mainly shortboarders in the water, and this dude on a 9' Meyerhoffer took off on a set wave (6' face at least) only just made the drop it was so steep and late, cranked a...

Re: surfboard agency boards
unclethirsty I'm not a big guy, but I'm old, 63. I was nearly 90kg about 3 years ago but I'm 76kg now and still losing weight. I'm not hard on my boards, but as I said, I often need to duck dive the fcukers, which means really driving my knee into the deck. And you just can't help it if a baggage ha...

Re: surfboard agency boards
Beery, I think you get used to the feel of a board, so I don't find them corky, but anyone coming from a 25-35l PUPE certainly would. They are not as corky as the Surftechs though, I think the ultra stiffness of the Surtech sandwich translates as a corky feel. The corkiest feeling board for me was a...

Re: surfboard agency boards
Yeah Beanpole, you could be right about that wide tail, that's why I played it safe and went for something narrower for bigger, hollower waves; the 6'10 has a much narrower tail, 17" rather than 17.25"

Re: surfboard agency boards
I don't know El Rancho. They seem to be pretty well panned by everyone in the industry, except though, for the people who have actually ridden one. But maybe there is a comparison in that they are both easy to ride and suit a wide range of conditions, albeit by using completely different design feat...

Re: surfboard agency boards
One of my pet hates as a construction method used to be epoxy over a polystyrene blank, the weakness of the construction was why builders went to the much more complex vacuum bagged "sandwich". When surftech brought out their TL2 construction I groaned with disgust. They were around for a few years ...

Re: Ask Carrolle
All good solid ideas from the new Neoprene Valley. Fcuk it was cold, I hung my wetsuit in the weak, watery sun whilst I contemplatrd a second surf, but after it seemed to dry off for a for a while it started to get wetter, that, combined with my growing confusion as to how to paddle a surfboard, led...

Re: Ask Carroll
Thanks Legian and Nick, I hear what what you are saying but currently I have two distinct paddling techniques. The return movements for both are the same (elbows high, a straight line close to the rails), however on the power part, one is done with a straight arm and the elbow is in the water; this ...

Re: Ask Carroll
I guess it must be time for a surf related question. First though I have to go on record as declaring my surfing ability could, currently, only be regarded as intermediate at best, even though I have been surfing off and on for about 40 years. Not surprisingly, my surf ability varies according to ho...

Re: Ask Carroll
The online Guardian is good. I prefer the mobile version as the desktop one is a bit too cluttered for my simple tastes'. There is not too much Australian content though, even when you select the Oz version. Also, the online version is not an afterthought. The online version is maintained continuous...

Re: Ask Carroll
I was listening to radio national the other day to a discussion with the/an editor of the Australian newspaper (can't remember his name), during which he blithely stated that the Australian was a "campaigning" newspaper. WTF! He quickly followed up with which parties were supported, virtually electi...

I'm going back to the Knitting and Crochet Forum, they're a much friendlier and forgiving bunch there.
