Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015

Steve there used to be one at Cook Is and one at those islands off Woolli. Solitary? That information is about 10 years out of date. They generally put them near Grey Nurse reserves. Those were a different study, the most recent were deployed post "the summer of the shark" when there were the attac...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015

Bombie, do you know where the nearest receiver buoy to Ballina is located? Nah they don't give away exact locations for fear of them being vandalized or stolen. But there are/were some up near you, as they've tracked both species up to the border. Remember one bull shark was recorded way way way up...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015

For the record, I'm not seriously suggesting that. But I'd like to see some kind of tagging program happening so they could at least see if big GWS are taking up residence in certain areas at certain times. Why for instance are we seeing so many here when a hundred K's up the coast on the Goldy the...

Re: Snowdonia Wavegarden

What about the potential of modifying existing reefs and shorelines in Indo: tweeking stretches where a small kink or a protrusion or a bunch of boulders stuff things up to create a rideable wave. Cut them out and you have a new wave at very little expense. Seems to be plenty of "almost" waves throu...

Thanks was just wondering cause a mate wants his boy to start out on a single fin "so he'll have a better style" later in life.

Re: Ask Carroll

Nick can you see any of Julian Wilson's longboarding heritage in his current surfing, any lines on a wave or approach to turns? Or does the equipment, or other factors - what he actually wants to do on a wave now maybe - preclude such a thing?

Well a four metre white would have come across plenty of seals in its travels. Doubt they switch off targeting what may look like a seal just cause they happen to be on the north coast at the time. Opportunist hunters.

Marine biologist Ralph Collier is one of the world's most prominent shark attack experts. He says, don't wear bright-colored bathing suits or wetsuits, especially those that have contrasting colors. "Sharks are attracted to bright, contrasting color,” said Collier , President of the Shark Research ...

Smiley? Hot kneelo and also first guy I saw in the 80s take an old original mal out to small DT point, way before the mal revival.

Re: Ask Carroll

ah yeah what I would say is that in fact Peter Crawford and other slab kneeboarders of the 1970s (Neil Luke, Steve Artis, and later Parkesy, Ken Horton and Novakov) were hugely influential on many of the young Australian surfers of the time and really opened many of our eyes to what was possible on...

Re: Ask Carroll

maybe, but geez alot of modern outlines look awfully reminiscent of those kneeboards being ridden by Novakov, Farrer and Parkes. it's uncanny. Absolutely. But Novakov etc's kneeboards _ short wide and usually round or rounded pin tails ridden in any sized surf _ didn't lead directly to today's shor...

Re: Ask Carroll

Then possibly the second great kneelo contribution to stand up surfing after Greenough was the Steve Lis fish _ inspiration for the modern twin, then, later, through Hynd, the starting gun of the next incantation of shorter and wider stand up boards. Interesting that in between these two events the ...

Novakov actually stills rips, after posting saw a vid where he does a barrel role at onshore Ulus. Slater's was some wild above the lip thing, not with the lip.

Does any pro, underground charger, local legend do em?
Saw a Shawn Barney Barron tribute vid where he almost pulls one, at pipe I think!
Narra kneelo legend Mike Novakov used to do em regularly, may still do.

They didn't re-edit the book to exclude the photos. Would have been simple to re-issue without the pics if that was just the only problem. Queensland cops put a crapload of effort into investigating the father _ found nothing to link him with any dope smuggling. Easy to defame a dead man.

Hard to see but this one's got a for sale sign on it. Ditch the garden gnome and get a garden ornament the neighbors will love.
