Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
@ a'boo Didn't know that, but not surprising. Techniques have advanced, but I doubt it will ever advance far enough for me to accept the results. There's a big name prof here who published in either Science or Nature about the movement or marine turtles. n equalled 1. Alfred Deakin Fellow, top of h...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Couple of the Sydney attacks _ North Av and Bondi, and that Redhead attack, happened on days the nets were actually at those beaches. Those trio of attacks could easily have been fatal, they weren't little nips, but fate, the gods, when your time is up it's up etc, meant the teeth missed arteries. J...

Four or five solid schools of salmon working baitfish, with their attendant gulls going mental overhead, between Manly and Dee Why last few days!

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Bomboraa probably has a better idea, braithy, but I think the idea that big whites only eat mammals is overblown. Probably because it has a longer residence time in the digestive tract. I know for a fact that they eat stingrays. A big meal would keep them going for a while. With the water this warm...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Juve GWS love Salmon. If I'm in the Newcastle - Port Macquarie area and see them or fisherman coming back with buck loads I tend to not go out. They pop up in numbers at the long reef to DY stretch, a few people recently have been chased out of the water by they think a Bronze Whaler or Mako feedin...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Actually southern bluefin in Australia are on the up and up. Thanks to the Japs being busted quite a while ago illegally over fishing the crap out of them south of Southern Australia, and some pretty strict catch limits in Oz. They now turn up off Sydney, and the entire southern NSW coast, in winter...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
How close in do whales swim at Ballina/Byron? Like the general migratory group? Do they generally come in within 2k of the coast or closer. or are they out 8-10k? I don't know about up there, but in the Newcastle, Port Stephens, Central Coast area whales come real close on the their way north. Like...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
What will be interesting is if the far north coast shark situation continues for some time. I'll bring up Sydney's "summer of the shark" again: Several attacks in just a few months. Fishos reporting noahs all over the place. Same concerns, same debate generated. Yet Sydney's not seen the same situat...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
There was a commercial cannery in Eden. After the boats that supplied it had help screw south coast southern Bluefin tuna (after screwing blue mackeral - slimeys - stocks) they turned in desperation to salmon, with the record NSW annual commercial catch of about 1300 tonnes recorded in 96/97. In 98/...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Not just whales but Australian salmon. Massive increases since large scale commercial fishing for them stopped. Used to be rare for them to be found north of Sydney. They now move up to the Queensland border and beyond. And they are a major food source for juvenile and teenaged great whites before t...

TV surf travel series talent hunt
My brother, who's executive producer of a TV production company based in Singapore, asked to have this put up. Pretty bloody cool gig, but age wanted rules out most of RS demographic :) I guess. Don't mind taking the 9'6" single fin out when it's small, With a heavy log there's substance behind good style.
