Re: QuikPro Forey

Poppers are so 2013. Try a big skimmer or swim/stick/pencil bait!

Re: Summer 2013-'14

I must say "hour long" fights with kings either off rocks or from a boat do raise the eyebrows. With big kings, unless you are in some freakish place with no structure or snags, the story is over in a few minutes. You are either beaming a big smile or running your fingers over frayed line or leader....

Re: Summer 2013-'14

Bored and micro surf so popped across the road to the rocks for the arvo dead low tide change yesterday. Half an later had six massive green eye squid _ four of em longer than 45cms and that doesn't include the tentacles. Lost three more trying to lift the big buggers up onto the rocks. Pale purple ...

Re: Ask Carroll

Interesting stuff about mid 70s twin v singles. My mates were split too, until we saw Simon testing the thruster at DY point. Which gives birth to next question; one of my mates immediately got a total backyard thruster made by a bloke in north Curly when it was almost impossible to get one except f...

Re: Ask Carroll

Hey Nick a question, sorry if already been asked; you ever ride twinnies back in the day? If so, what boards and what's your memories of em. If not why not?

Re: Ask Carroll

Ah well suppose I better answer, but am not a public defender of her. It was not a double bodyboard bag. Don't know where you got that from. It's more rubbish. It had a slight divide between the bodyboard and the flippers, as these bags do. And there were flippers in there too. She was a very keen b...

Re: Building the ultimate trendy Mid-Length.

I've got a 7'2" Bonzer speed egg sans flyers and it is simply awesome. Loves a barrel. Got it second hand, bargain of the century, for $300. There was one second hand for sale recently, asking was $1000. Someone had bought it from that cool as buggery shop in Manly, where every staffer and shopper h...

Re: Spirit of Akasha - Tribute to 40 years of MOTE

Sure I'll enjoy it very much. Do love arty surf imagery. But was not the original a way of revealing what was cutting edge at the time; short boards, new travel destinations, cosmic kiddie lifestyles and moving to the north coast? So if you wanted to do MOTE a la 21st century wouldn't you repeat tha...

Re: slater boycotts japan event in protest dolphin slaughter

Not bashing Flipper, they are indeed an interesting critter, just tired of their appeal at expense of other sea creatures. And how they are an easy badge of honour for those who say they lurve the oceans.

Re: slater boycotts japan event in protest dolphin slaughter

Intelligence governs our attitude to animals? Dolphins can be just as brutal, actually, more so, than other marine species when they hunt. Quite nasty bastards sometimes. A big bluefin? Nup, just eats with manners.

Re: slater boycotts japan event in protest dolphin slaughter

I'd be far more impressed if Slater ditched Japanese event in protest at the country's massive slaughter of fish - actually of pretty much everything which moves, and some which doesn't, in the world's oceans. That's a huge threat to marine ecosystems on a global scale. Add protests at the commercia...

Re: floatation aid

Rock fishoes too Sir Foils. Plenty of them bang their heads as they are washed in. Whitewater rafters and kayaks as well? Even new gen parents who are mega safety conscious of their sprogs _ might be attracted when their kids swim in the super crowded local council pool. Incorporate into rashie. Mas...

Re: floatation aid

That is extremely interesting Sir Foils. Many thanks for taking the question seriously. It is indeed a design challenge which deserves attention (and not just for me).
On a side note, have now decided crowded surf has at least one benefit :)

Re: floatation aid

Thanks heaps fellas. Yep is an interesting design conundrum. The massive majority of boat life jackets also seem to assume the wearer is conscious, and of course their bulk makes surfing and paddling (apart from SUPs) impossible. Gonna take blow up travel neck pillow down to kiddies corner (with mat...

Re: Sealife

No bonnies in Sydney this year. And few slimies round at the mo. Most likely frigates. They've arrived and are going nuts. Until last couple of weeks baitfish or any kind rare in Sydney, either offshore or in Harbour. Things have changed! Bait is tiny; between 2cm and 4cm long. And those nasty nasty...
