Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
With 11 days on the Nicoya should I invest more time at one location over another? I'd like to visit Brasilito / Playa Flamingo, Play grande, Tamarindo, Play Langosta, Avellana, Play Negra, Junquilal, Ostional, Nosara / Playa Guiones, Playa Coyote, Santa Theresa and Mal Pais... where would it be wis...

Oregon - Central California in September
Thinking about doing a road trip from Seaside down as far as Ventura; stopping at breaks along the way, camping, touring. Is that a good time of year? Are sharks in abundance that time of year?

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
I'll likely book a trip to Hawaii mid-late October. Oahu and Maui are easy enough to fly too... I have time off in September but the weather is too nice in the pacific northwest that time of year to need to go somewhere hot... I may take a drive down along the coast to California in September.

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
I opted for Costa Rica; surf looks more consistent that time of year and it was also a bit cheaper and easier for me to fly to Liberia then Hawaii from Canada that time of year... flight options were pretty much limited to Oahu late April - early May. And Car rentals + the mandatory insurance are al...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
That's unfortunate, bummer that the island with the most consistent and accessible surf has by far the most people. I've visited Kauai and Maui in November; fun waves though I feel Maui would be more appealing during big south swells as every night and day it was blasting trade winds from the NE whi...

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
So that time of year my best bet would Oahu and Kauai over Maui or the Big Island... does Maui and Big Island not activate much with smaller south swells?
Also, is the vehicle traffic on Oahu bad year-round?

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
Anyone else care to chip in? The ski season in Canada ends mid April, after which I am hoping to jump into the warm water with some good waves... Hawaii is certainly easier/quicker to get to... Looking at seasonal forecast Nicoya appears to be a lot more consistent that time of year?

Re: Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
I figured April/May would still have some tapering off north swells, while the south swells started to move in? Is this not too common?

Hawaii or Costa Rica Mid April - Early May
I was thinking of taking a 2 week trip to Costa Rica or Hawaii mid April to early May... What is likely to be more consistent / better surf that time of year?
Costa Rica is a bigger pain to get to.

Volume calculator for landlocked surfers - funshape
I notice surfboard calculators out there are pretty much for short boards or fishes. Not for long boards, hybrids or fun shapes. I have spent a lot of time previously surfing consistently and I can surf well enough; at my local breaks I find I am one of the higher tier surfers for catching and ridin...

Re: Length over width for volume?
Well I do have a 6'6" x 20 x 2 3/4 proper short board shape; I can surf it well enough... Problem is I now live about 10 hours from the waves in a mountain town... good for skiing and mountain biking, less for surfing. I do get a bunch of time off and take extended surf trips throughout the spring, ...

Re: Length over width for volume?
Ok thanks, though a 1/4 inch 1/2 inch of width likely wouldn't have too much of an impact?

Re: Length over width for volume?
I am having an 6'8 x 2 3/4 funshape, rounded tail, quad fin shaped. The default width is 21.5; I am debating going 21, 20.75 or 20.5... As I don't want to lose the intended feel and performance of the shape, but I'd like to reduce a bit of volume and make it better suited for steeper faster waves.

Re: Length over width for volume?
I've just noticed that short, wide boards are very common, but longer narrow boards are not. Would not a longer/narrower board be bigger for faster, steeper waves compared to a shorter/wider board?

Poly on poly vs epoxy on poly
Hello, is it beneficial to glass a poly foam board with epoxy resin vs poly resin on poly foam? Will it help much with weight and durability... and is it worth the additional cost?

Length over width for volume?
I am wondering why shorter fatter boards seem a lot more common than longer narrower boards. I figure length help more with paddling and early wave entry than width and that a narrower board allows for better rail to rail. For instance 7' x 20 vs 6'10 x 21. Also what is the advantage of going for le...
