weird boards

Interesting one Beanpole. I like even more extreme and have had some seriously interesting stares and comments with some of my boards, especially the one below. The tail is based on the plan of a stealth fighter, but I had a change of heart when shaping and hence the round tail component and differe...

board

Macca, The board that should appear in the avatar is 6'5"x21"x2 3/4" and until recently has been my weapon of choice. It has been replaced by something else as I make a few boards and those that aren't for people usually end up at Dripping Wet and that is where it is probably headed. The upshot is y...

snaps

Oooh, got to feel for the kid! Know how they feel. I shaped, sprayed, glassed, sanded and totally put my heart & soul into a board for a friend recently and he broke it the forth time he took it out in some innane situation eskying at Manly! The good news is it went quite well 2' shorter. 3/8"...

As a (philosophical) nephew once said to me, there are surfers and people who surf. There is a big difference. How do explain being fulfilled with a surf by just having one good wave or turn? Yet all the people I surf with would proclaim the same thing. On the more left field note, I heard recently ...

legrope snags

While surfing many moons ago in Fiji with a friend we happened to meet and surf with a couple of expats, one of whom worked as a flight controller at Nandi. Travelling out to Namotu by speed boat one day we noticed he had a fairly nasty, recent looking scar on his stomach... Apparently while surfing...

TKK, If you like experimenting you might also consider having 3 FCS plugs put in for your side fins. Not suggesting this for the bonzer set-up though. I had a board done a few years ago in this manner with a normal 10" centre fin box and occassionally used to run a thruster set-up, but with the side...

I've got a variety of boards including 2 mals, a 9'4" and a 9'0" plus a very usual 6'3", all 23" wide. In a shortboard the effects of extra width are dramatic :P … My mals are very different to each other in their design and construction (weight) and as a part time shaper I think the extra width, ap...

You should also consider a run by Dripping Wet in Manly, they have a good range of used mals (including one of my own on consigment) that should be within your budget. Good hunting...
