Re: lewis samuels in surfer's path
Otway, Agree with your comments about Surfers Path. I recently cancelled my subscription after seeing a mail order add in the classified section for steroids, this magazine is supposedly promoting a green conciousness and they want surfers to put steroids in our bodies. The surfers path just hit a d...

Re: High Performance balsa surfboards shaped by you!
Global warming. How can surfers reduce their carbon footprint. By consuming less foam and fibreglass. Build a stronger surfboard that lasts longer. One option is Balsa. Or better still Paulownia grown from Australian plantations. Even lesser carbon footprint. Challenging oneself to take the creative...

Re: Proposition for the trial of new surfing rules at Byron Bay.
Some of you seem to have misinterpreted one of my rule proposals. I have NOT proposed any surfing no go zones for surfers who can turn. Regarding the number of surfers in the line up, the most crowded day was a sunday afternoon in january 2009, there were 70 surfers out between spectator rock and th...

Re: Proposition for the trial of new surfing rules at Byron Bay.
For those that did not know, the Pass at Byron Bay had incredible banks for 13 months, then in early autumn 2009 big swells from the E/NE wrecked the banks gouging about 3 to 4 metres of sand out of the entire bay and caused severe beach erosion. Here is a photo of the best swell to hit during that ...

Proposition for the trial of new surfing rules at Byron Bay.
On the 31st of January there is going to be a meeting to discuss what can be done about the dangerous and chaotic surfing situation at the Pass. My proposal is for a trial of 3 new rules. Rule 1. For beginners - surfers who are learning to stand up. Should be directed by a sign on the beach to surf ...

Re: All timber board builders help....
There is heaps of information on vents at the Tree to Sea wooden surfboard building forum. http://www.grainsurf.com/forum/ On the the index page go down to Fins, Leashes, Vents. Re: Not sure about this one
What about cotton wool soaked in resin mixed with white pigment, buid up the rail and then sand it back.
Sure it will be heavier but the board will then be saved and not thrown away as toxic landfill.

Re: Next board ?
Here is a question.
A surfer brings his board to a shaper and asks for a copy to be made, with one change, 1/2'' extra tail lift.
How is this done ?

Re: Wooden Surfboard Display at Currumbin
Regarding the cost of Paulownia. To build a chambered paulownia board 7'6'' by 21'' would cost $280 for the wood. 6 pieces of 38mm by 150mm by 4 metres long would be enough. Cost of 38mm by 150mm $11.80 per metre. Regarding Paulownia plantations, business is good, 2 of the owners of a victorian plant...

Re: Wooden Surfboard Display at Currumbin
^ Exactly. They are made to be surfed, and the most important thing to understand is they are a more environment friendly surfboard, Paul Joske had a chambered Paulownia timber board there and the only non natural part was the glue that holds it together, it was sealed with a linseed oil and gum turp...

Wooden Surfboard Display at Currumbin
Wooden Surfboard Display at Currumbin tomorrow the 9th of August. In the park opposite the surf break. Worth checking out what some surfers are doing to try and make a more environment friendly, less disposeable, less toxic surfboard. The potential of Paulownia wood to replace foam is the future of ...

Re: Thinking of getting a longboard - suggestions
McCoy nuggets are the go. Proper glass jobs 6oz. Not many surfers realize the signifigance of having the wide point and rocker/dome apex 3'' below 1/2 way , this makes them the easy to turn long boards. At one end of the surfboard spectrum is the 6' by 18'' by 2 1/4'' 4 oz disposeable surfboard. At ...
