Re: Where did you surf today ?

Conditions are perfect, but still only 9 out: 3 at the bomby, 3 at the peak and 3 at the corner. Why are so few out? First is ability, next is the ratio of effort to the number of waves caught: sets are every 30 mins or so, and its hard to be in just the right place to catch them, so those 9 guys ar...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Not me Legion, there's a number of reasons its never crowded over 8', despite the 100s of good surfers on the island

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Well overhead sets at Ulus, big ribs up the faces, lots out but not many takers and they don't get far. Padang small and gnarly, more skill required when its smaller. About 20 out at 6pm.
I surfed Impossibles most of the day

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Hatchy, I traded that 6'6, 30l Flyer 2 for a 6'6 LSD Chubby Cheddar. Its 20.25" wide, pointy nose, good lift in the tail, slight hip.... in fact much like a Flyer 1, and 39l. I think this will be the closest I'll ever get to a HPSB. I've had a few shitty waves on it, I'm sure it will rip for me, but...

I'm sure you'll want to quibble on the 90% Steve, so lets just say the majority.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Where I am HPSB thruster/quads are used by 90% of surfers, under the feet of someone good they absolutely rule, their riding and performance is just amazing.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Next week Cranky, BIG The 7' Byrne is waxed and ready. Had it out again a few days ago, its not at all twitchy at speed - hot knife through butter, etc. Last time I surfed decent size waves was on a 7'6 x 21.5" 63l McCoy. Its gonna be a bit different on a 7' x 20.5" 45l board. Next trip I'll defini...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

A few odd sets today, mainly just drifting around talking. A week of solid swell, all-day offshores and endless sunshine coming up. And good tides.

Re: Quiver thread

After dicking around for nearly a year I've finally got a board that I like. I brought an unridden Tuflite 6'8 Flyer with me, old style pointy nose, 20.5 width, deep single concave, no V, huge lift in the tail and nose but flat in the middle. Best board I've had since the HPSBs of my youth "Better"...

Re: Quiver thread

WAY? faster....more manoueverable?? Paying out on a design that I'm doubting you've explored to the limit, eat your heart out. Of course I haven't explored McCoys to the limit, but I have owned the following TSA first generation nuggets: 6'3, 6'6, 6'8, 6'10, 7', 7'6, 8' and generation 2: 7', 7'6. A...

Re: Guns.

Have you ever been a part of the WW group based out of his shop? I was a member many years ago... I used hang out there a bit in the late 90's/ early 00's..bought numerous boards off him. My user name comes from a particularly awesome 6'10" channel bottom he shaped me. WW! Had to think for a minute...

Re: Guns.

Local shaper has a good business model. He'll trade just about anything: half his sales would be good second hand boards. He stocks GSI, TSA and more exotic brands, and will shape whatever you want, and is a great guy to boot. I must have bought 100 odd boards, including customs, off him over 20 od...

Re: Guns.

Scroll down through Gravelle's FB page for some nice guns. His standard short boards are around $650, not bad for a custom these days. https://www.facebook.com/gravellesurboards/?fref=ts I gave the 7' Easyrider a run this morning. Talk about twitchy! If I didn't know better I would have attributed ...
