Re: Surfing
Go pros are okay if used by good surfers in hollow waves, shooting forwards.
But they should ban those board mounts, i lose all respect for other surfers in the water when i see a go pro plastic mount glued on the boards nose, knowing what they have done.

Re: Boards that "die"
Havent tried a HK and actually don't really see many at all around here (as no local shop sells them), only one's i remember seeing were actually older guys that were surprisingly surfing pretty good. To be honest i wouldn't mind giving one a go, but ive had a board in future flex tech, felt good, b...

Re: Surfing
Yeah agree. The intro footage was okay, but don't drag it out. The waves looked crap, definitely not worth filming. And if Kelly Slater cant make a go pro shooting back at himself look half decent (which he can't), then no one can. My advice. 1. Take the go pro from your board, smash the plastic mou...

Re: Ask Carroll
@ Nick What sunscreen do you use? or is there a sunscreen that sun sensitive pro surfers favour? Sorry if this question has been asked here before, just thought id ask as you would expect with how much time pro surfers must spend in the water/sun they would be in the know, plus the conversation came...

Re: Boards that "die"
Fads aren't always a bad thing, wider shorter, longer narrower, crazy rocker, channels, quads etc As long as you dabble in them and enjoy the change/experience, sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't like the high rocketed low volume boards of the 90,s, but every time we go through a fad i ...

Re: Boards that "die"
For me lighter boards feel like they go better especially in small waves, but i admit there is possibly a degree of "in you head factor" with boards (and surfing in general) and a big factor for me is the weight of a board if its light to me it feels fresh and new. If its got a bit of weight even be...

Re: Boards that "die"
A typical lightweight polyurethane/polyester board will begin to lose the new feeling in short months. 1) -Polyurethane is like pavlova crust- the cell structure has limited memory...every flex and heel push is crunching the cells and they don't bounce back. The reactive agent in polyurethane is wa...

Re: Boards that "die"
When people talk about Firewire boards they really should say what type of construction it is/was. Ive had both FST and Rapid fire (white not bamboo deck) and both constructions are totally different in feel, weight and especially durability. Basically IMO FW FST= Ive had four and find there about t...

Re: Coffs Harbour artificial reef plans in limbo
What we often forget is erosion is totally natural, winds, waves, tides and ocean levels have been changing the shape and location of coastline forever. Much of our coastal dunes are also covered in marram grass which is an introduced sp and a lot better at stabilising our dunes than other native gr...

Re: Coffs Harbour artificial reef plans in limbo
I don't get you Marvin. Are you a troll or a farkin idiot? Half your posts are about coal seam gas and lookin' after the environment innit. The other half are about dumping large amounts of foreign shit onto the ocean floor to make a new break. Which is it buddy? Artificial reefs aren't necessarily...

Re: Phillip Island
The bottle neck thing i wouldn't be to concerned about its generally not a problem unless an event is on or before or after a long weekend or if there is an accident on that stretch. IMO if your going to be that close to the Island you might as well be at Cape Woolamai as its the centre of surfing o...

Re: Phillip Island
If you thinking of working down Melbourne way id check out Corinella, Cornet bay, Grantville,Pioneer bay area, properties down that way are as cheap as coastal properties come, some even have great bay views, means your 15-25 minutes (30-50 min return) closer to Melboure/surburbs than phillip island...

Re: Charities in Padang
The obvious one is Surf Aid, but there is other smaller groups mostly christian based that do work through Sumatra. I dont know how you would go with Surf Aid, there a big organisation obviously they do good work but ive also heard many negatives of wasted money etc personally i tried to get some he...

Gday Ducky, I'm staying at ZLR with 4 good mates, 3 brothers of mates and about 5 other mates of mates. Pretty excited! You gonna be around? No such luck Damage, just curious as i was in the Telos Sept last year, at the Telos Surfing Village, right in front of Pastis, the premium right hander in th...

Re: Most inconsistent waves in Australia
The whole north coast of Tasmania has an amazing amount of high quality reefs but sadly it very rarely gets proper swells to light them up mostly just wind swells or no swell, if it got consistent groundswell it would be one of the most surf rich coast anywhere. I think thats a common theme lots of ...

Re: Phillip Island
I grew up on the island in 80-90s then lived on the east coast for about ten years before moving back about 5 years back because basically i wanted to be able to live/buy a few minutes from the beach and i couldn't afford to anywhere on the east coast that had a population big enough to have work, o...

Re: First OS surf trip.
Well, that's one of the sites, but it's been on lots of them. I know stuff is meant to be cheap, but sometimes it just seems obscene. Just trying to work out what I can afford to do for now. Perhaps I should leave it until after the next trip to the dentists.... ha ha speaking of indo and dentist, ...
