Re: twinny longboards
Nigel Beckam has been making twinnie longboards on the Goldy for a number of years. Think he may only do customs now - but for a while there (5 years or so ago) there were plenty around at the Alley and the Snapper Cooly stretch. No sure they'd be twinnies in your regular sense - but there were only...

Re: quiet
Spray straight onto foam Dug. Yep very pleased with result and even though its retro - ish planshape, the bottom is rolled under the nose, to flat to single concave and v from fins back. First surf was a shocker, but second one at the Alley on the Goldy was fantastic with long sucky walls and she fl...

Re: surfboard design - definitive guide?
Can but agree - you'll learn a lot and have some fun and may even turn out something you like. As Ric says too - its shit pulling glass off old stuff, and yes I did it as a kid cause I had no money and its way too many years ago now - but do yourself a favour and buy a blank. Seconds can be OK for f...

Re: quiet
As to my shaping bay - well the back deck on BBQ bench stools. And as I commented, no possibility of glassing under those conditions - so outsourced to a guy down the back of Pottsville (Nth NSW) whose done a few boards for me previously and does a good strong and professional job. As you see its no...

Re: quiet
Ok - so I got a pic or two of a board i just made. Its 7'4'' x 21 3/4 by 2 7/8 and I've got it set up as a 2 + 1 also - but can ride as a single. Indeed I have a fin from a board Mr Pridmore made me so can ride as a thruster too. Sadly shaping room/bay is my back deck. And I didn't glass it. Quandry...

Re: The Dangers of Currumbin Alley
Totally agree on the numbers Trev. Its just crazy and the car park(s) are full at 6am in any holiday time. Mid week obviously its not so bad, but that ain't always a possibility for most and with sunrise getting later, the early is even less a possibility. I said the banks were good - not Super :win...

Re: The Dangers of Currumbin Alley
It was calm - though the sets were about 3 foot if infrequent and as I said quite long walls into the channel. Plus it was a Sunday morning so the crowds were pretty thick. Yes Fong, local media was on it this morning about what to do - but as Trev says both parties have a right to be there. Seen pl...

Boat accident at Currumbin Alley yesterday
Sadly yesterday morning at the Alley a local board rider was killed by a boat coming back into the estuary. The banks at the Alley are as good as they've been for some time and are quite long for those that know the break and peeter out in deeper water some 50 metres from the breakwall. Seems the su...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Ah Trev - i reckon that its not an age thing mate. Though at 56 - I could argue a good case for it too. Some days you're just out of synch and no matter what happens you just can't seem to be in right place. And especially at places where theres one take off area and a vicious sweep and crowds - a b...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Bumfluff - yep after yesterday ya might have thought it had all gone - but it grew through the day today and while not every set was 6 foot - there sure were some that hit that mark and most were a good 4-5. Brownhornet are you from down the Gong? Just the Pegs caught my eye - so did you get a popul...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Rainbow, Greenmount through to Cooly yesterday 3-4 foot. Yesterday arvo was less crowded ad the arvo was pretty offshore as was the whole day. Crowds were ok yesterday - but today public holiday in Qld and the swell finally kicked in and was 4-6 and just classic. As was the sweep and the crowds. I s...

Re: Surfing Sydney Airport, early 1960s.
Even though I grew up on the Northern Beaches - I had cousins that lived at Sans Souci and grandparents that lived on Cronulla Point - Tradewinds Apartments, I think they still there, the apartments that is - I'm 56 so the grandies are long gone. Anyway - I remember the punt that went to Taren Point...
