Re: Volcano Ash cloud
I think Olds was right, it was a latitude thing originally, then lower level stuff spreading it onto mainland Oz. The jetstream direction and speed is dependent on latitude, I believe. As far as I could find out this morning, it is always west to east at that latitude. http://www.sciencemediacentre....

Re: Volcano Ash cloud
The cloud is travelling from west to east, it has gone across Argentina, the Atlantic and around the southern ocean before getting here. http://cdn.wanderlust.co.uk/contentimages/wanderlust/News-ash-cloud-disrupts-flights-in-chile-and-argentina.jpg?width=460&height=276 (That's South America) The jet...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
figured we'd hear from you, robzig..
I've got an xcel infiniti with the fusion weld stuff, I assume it is basically the same process?
The seams are shot, they lasted about a year. Pity, it was super warm before that.
So, they should be placing the silicon on the opposite side of the stitching?

Re: Swell Period
haven't heard of much more than that, there must be some theoretical limits based on wind speed, though I guess if you got a stationary system you could get something massive.

So, it's the flexibility of the shoulders that is the issue?
Not the warmth?
Have to say, if I can't fit my shoulders into the thing, it's kind of a moot point.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
to all those blokes who recommend chest zips over back zips... are you taking the piss? :!: I've been trying on everything going around in the top end suits, and I nearly had to get cut out of a couple. It'd take me half the surf to get in an out of the suit. No wonder they keep you warmer, half you...

Re: Do you keep a surf diary?
yeah, period wasn't that high in '07, maybe it was too close to land? We get a fair bit of SE swell, but it isn't often pure. Normally heading from E to S or vice versa, from what I've seen. Rarely coincides with good wind too. In Sydney? If not, I have some info for elsewhere in NSW, send me a PM. ...

The whole month was pumping as was July. Hey Coops I wasn't around Sydney in 2006, but June 2007 was the bi...

Re: Do you keep a surf diary?
Hey Craig I'll defer to your clearly superior knowledge. Not sure what is the next step up from taking my hat off to you (and other forecasters), maybe a doff of the cap? I guess being on the east coast I was thinking more about the evolution and timing of ECLs and particularly the influence of radi...

Do you keep a surf diary?
I met a bloke at the Goldy who had a daily surf record for Coolangatta from about 1968
How long have you kept it?
Have you noticed any changes over long periods (5yrs +)?
And for Fong's benefit, how do observations and forecasts match up?
