Re: Cutbacks on a longboard

In 74 a boulder the size of a car was thrown up on the road at Kirra Point by the cyclone swell   which one? May, I'm guessing. I used to help out with tsunami research, which gives you a bit of perspective when talking about large storms. There's a record of a sperm whale (40+ tonnes...

Re: Cutbacks on a longboard

67 was the start of 10 years of cyclone summers the likes of which haven't been seen since. I've got an inkling that'll change soon. .....reaching a peak in 74 ?........the next 3 months will be interesting... I'd say later summer will be the most interesting time. Yeah, 74 was the big year, more i...

Re: Cutbacks on a longboard

Hi Steve I realise that it's possible to argue that anything a person does is a form of self expression, so I'd better explain what I mean. I don't surf in order to express my personality, to be artistic, or to exhibit or experience 'style'. I inhabit a more primeval mindset, it isn't sociable or e...

Re: Flat Days and alternatives... Racing mal? SUP? Kayak? Yo

sounds like you should get a cheap plastic sit on top kayak. Trading Post, Gumtree etc are good sources. Probably an easier option than trying to find a good one for someone your weight/size too if you don't know what you're looking for. You can fit a mini anchor to it, or if you're broke just tie a...

Re: Kite Surfing

I dont mean to offend any Kite rider either. Like i said, when you get going, it looks fun. But i like the idea of riding the energy created as a result of the wind in liquid form, not the wind itself. don't have to be exclusive, Coops. You can use the wind to get you onto unbroken waves, depower a...

Re: Kite Surfing

Get some lessons first up. If you can find a local club with an orientation/introduction day it'll be cheaper. Uni clubs are a good place to start. disclaimer: I've never kite surfed , just controlled the kite on land (and snow). Done a lot of windsurfing. Kitesurfing (according to my windsurfing bu...

Re: Recommended Surfboard Coffins for travel

Heard very good things about these: Curve Overstayer burrito coffin bag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJYyXUNBAxM Not very robust, and no wheels, but light. Dragged a snowboard bag around Europe on the way to Canada, not something I want to do again. You're right on the wheels, how far do you think...

Re: Base gone under

The day people willingly pay a significant premium (ie an extra $150, say) for a surfboard hand made in Australia is the day I'll begin to believe all the knee jerk bullshit about economic patriotism. The hard truth in surfboard making is that in the past decade and a half, the power in the purchas...

Re: Summer of ASurf

Now, in these dark times for surf, I have found a way to extract some energy from a weak windswell. Doubt not, that be an art, and an art worth learning. Asked a physiologist about the lateral lines to aid my addled memory...they've got the pits but not the sensory pores or nervous connection. So y...

Re: Building lung capacity - advice needed

why dont ya go down the local pool hatchy, and do some laps. have a breather, then try an underwater lap or 3. if you do this consistently you will build up capacity. or you could go all laird on us, and run on the bottom of the pool holding a 10kg weight  my missus was a really good competitv...
