Re: A Waimea Story by Dave Parmenter

Magoo's wife Debbie contacted me, said she was really hoping a lot of old mates and surfers in general would pop round to see him, give him a bit of warmth in his last days. Anyone who knows him or such, PM me for her contact details. I went around with a couple of mates a few weeks ago - we only e...

Re: A Waimea Story by Dave Parmenter

A nicely woven story Nick. Magoo has so many surf stories through all eras of board riding, but he's so humble it would take a skilled interviewer to get them all on the table. But what a story it would be.... Here's a recent award winning attempt by Dean Saffron. Dean put this together around this ...

Re: Slater, Greg Webber & Shane Herring

GSTQ, probably not questions with simple answers. But briefly, what is the board design situation in Wales and in GB? Do people ride a lot of locally shaped boards? Is there a locally popular general purpose board style? it's a mix really foamy. there's a few local manufacturers who turn out decent...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I was a fan of the O'Neills - great fit, but I'm sold on the NEED suit. I didn't want to get a chest entry suit - it always takes a month or more to stretch the neck so I don't wanna gag during a session, but this suit had no issues. One of the best fits I've had. Longevity is obviously yet to be t...

Mate has just let me know about this if anyone is interested http://www.needessentials.com/ Know it doesn't help most, but you can try them on at Dos Primos in Gilbert St, Torquay The bloke used to work for Qicky in the wettie area. They come from the same factory as the top quiky wetties with all ...

Re: East Coast of England

South Wales is a good option, but you still need a car to make the most of it. I was living in Swansea and I'd catch a bus to Langland Bay, which was the most accessible by public transport, and can be a fun wave on it's day. It gets very crowded because of it's proximity to the city. The Gower peni...

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

I thought Haydn Lewis was shaping with Channel Islands now.

I knew someone who had one of those free range boards - lovely shape, beak nose, he loved it, but never saw him out in the line up on it. This was about 5 years ago, when Haydn was shaping for Insight

How does this sit with the Aloha Spirit that the Duke used to try and greet people with?

Do the black shorts have more of an influence than the Dukes legacy?

Re: Age, diet, type 2 diabetes and you.

Sorry for asking, but are you a coeliac? Why sorry? Cos it's personal and none of my business. My youngest son got diagnosed with Coeliac's about 2 years ago - he grew up on carbs, loved 'em. Fell ill in year 5 and missed 4 months of school with chronic stomach pain, howling in pain at times. Speci...

About PNG, there's a mob that run the Vanimo Surf Lodge, that have a heap of different breaks on their doorstep, from peelers through to reef breaks.

I've linked to their facebook page. I know them because they donated a prize to help fund the Magoo Charity Classic.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Scratch O'Neill off my list of wetsuits to buy. Kingofwatersports won't send them either. I knew that from a year ago, but there was nothing explicit on their website unlike Rip Curl, where it states at the bottom of each wetsuit page that they will only ship within the EU. O'Neill didn't say that,...

Take a peek at the DVS all-rounder Steve. It really is a versatile board, a bit less than the McT, and sometimes they come round on the second hand circuit.

Re: SUP's

I picked up a second handy for 1k and a paddle for another 100. That's still expensive, but I haven't been able to get my missus interested in the water for over 20 years - in the past 6 days we've been out morning and night. There are some decent second hand ones around, if you look you'll find 'em...
