Re: Softboard for beginners - Softline vs other? what to cho
I would skip the softboard. They are good for - catching waves - going straight - not hurting other people But the first isnt that much different to a longboard, the second is a downside and the third wont matter when you arent in a class of15 as long as you are sensible. Sure good surfers can do we...

Re: Bali for beginners and intermediate
What about PNG - Nusa Island, for example. Although I dont know where you are, if you are in Perth then its a hard slog. Will be (possibly a lot) more expensive than Bali. Also PNG has no nightlife or bars or anything. Easier waves and better fishing and diving, but out of the water its just relax. ...

The Velocity Diet is tough but good. Its basically ketogenic. But just upping the protein (eg shake for breakfast, or eggs) and decreasing the carbs will work. Check out the 'Fathead' website (or movie), although there is a bit of crappy US republican (verging on tea party) stuff here and there to i...

Re: Road trip: Sunshine coast - South coat NSW.
Hayden's Pies just the south side of Ulladulla does great pies and sausage rolls. I also love them because their Easter weekend pie special is usually rabbit pie. Pilgrims brekkie is great. I quite like the pizza shop across the road (Milton Pizza? not sure of its name), although the fact that every...

little bazza was sick the other day and we stayed at home together and watched "pom poko". have you seen it iggy? little bazza just loved it and has been talking about it ever since. All the Studio Ghibli films (well, apart from that one about the bomb - Grave of the Fireflies) are fantastic for ki...

Maybe in a month or so, I'm getting some new boards and would hate it to be out of date Do you keep a diary/list of all the boards you have ever had (or most of them) or do you just have a good memory? one of my dad's mates has every board, every surf diarised since he started back in the 1960s. Bo...

Why no female shapers? Well jeez, that's pretty obvious. Apart from anything else I reckon women may be smarter than men and thus tend to avoid such things. But the profession is entirely dominated by masculinity at every turn, there's no welcome mat out even for new male shapers, no trade route, n...

It is useful as entertainment. It's a surfing magazine not a court document. You gumby's need to chill out. Like most things regarding surfing, it's subjective. ok fair point but just trying to raise it in the hope that some smart bastard can think of a way to help work out (with subjectivity in mi...

Nick These are possible total kook questions but anyway Do you ever feel that having you, and people of similar (high) skills doing surfboard reviews is of practical benefit to the average surfer? What you, as say a top 5% surfer, gets out of a board, what you can make the board do and what you noti...

The father of the 15 yr old (!) Japanese kid who came 2nd in the half pipe owns a surf shop in Japan. Apparently the dad wanted the kid to become a surfer, but kid wasnt very good and ended up skateboarding instead (then, obviously, snowboarding). So basically you can get to the Olympics if you fail...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
The crux of this for me is age and deterioration. I'll be needing more paddle power sooner rather than later and I'll embrace it as required. Still can't see it getting me more waves though There is also the fact that more foam means you can surf for longer before getting tired. So more waves. Not ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Works with any board with a bit of foam, the pointier it is the less corner scoop you need to do though. Think of it like pushing a knife through a tomato, do it flat it's kinda hard but possible, turn it 90 degrees and it slices. Or you can just turtle roll - if we oldies can get 9ft longboards ou...
