Re: Industry rip offs
My first (and current) board is an epoxy Dart mini-mal. It was cheap enough to spend the cash on as a beginner to see how far I wanted to go down the path of learning to surf. The board has surfed its purpose and has held up well after taking beatings only a beginner can give it. I now have a Miller...

Re: Industry rip offs
The way I see it, the surf "industry" is just going through what cycling went through about 30 years ago. There are still people prepared to spend obscene amounts of coin on bike gear, perhaps even moreso than ever. Of course... it's all imported. 30 years ago? I only thought that people st...

Re: Board report - new Miller V-Skate
Thanks for the info, buzzy. I was going to stick to my epoxy Dart mini mal (*) for a while longer until I found out that Grant was shutting up shop for quite a while so I decided to put an order in before he left. I sent an email to Grant saying what I could and could not do surfwise (the latter bei...

Re: Board report - new Miller V-Skate
In short, the board rocks. With less length, width and volume than the waterskate it replaces it goes faster, and is more manoeverable. I have no bad words at all. Based on one surf I'm calling it a magic board. Great for small days and summer mush. Other than being faster and more maneuverable tha...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Uluwatu at 6:30am this morning. There were only 10 people out there at the time. OK, to call it surfing would be a huge stretch of imagination ... I spent more time paddling to avoid waves than paddling to get onto waves. I'm surprised that my white boardies weren't stained when I got out at the cav...

Re: How BIG will Sydney be on Saturday????!
All the good petit bourgeois husbands of Sydney will be in the inner west chasing Asian poon-tang after your breathless admonitions Al. Inner west, asian poon tang? Steve, I'm gonna ask for some more specific directions my man. I'm taking a guess here but I think Steve would be referring to Ashfiel...

what time was this? I was out there around 1pm on Saturday and didn't notice anything. I think they were having a surf comp in the middle of the beach by then.

FFS. BRONTE. At least the gas BBQs are far better than the pocket handwarmers at Longy. (and there are tasty ladies doing their jiggly stuff on the Bondi-Bronte walk. I walked from Coogee to Bronte and back today. One of the few times during the year that you see surfers out at Coogee. Anyway, ther...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
that wasn't you in board shorts, was it? I was parked at the car park near the northern head and had a look at the North End. There were 3 surfers furthest out back, and one of them looked like he wasn't wearing a steamer ...iggy wrote:north end maroubra..

Well this summer marks my first year of learning to surf (and signing up to RealSurf). The progress report isn't good. Unlike the other replies to this thread, mine will be from the perspective of someone who is still learning. I didn't grow up near a beach but unlike the rest of my school mates in ...

the most shocking part about last night's episode was the bit in Tasmania with the forestry workers. A group of "blue collar, tattooed" (JWH's words, he left out the term "union members") applauding and shaking hands with JWH. Who would have thought that union members would be greeting a Liberal PM ...
