Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
HI Beerfan, yeah I had it out in some 1ft dribble last weekend with 1000 Mal riders. Sadly I was a little underwhelmed. With that much volume it dosent really turn as well as I would like, but on the flip side - dosent have quite enough to paddle as well as I would want. Not sure what I was expectin...

Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
how did your kids go on the mini simmons thing you made? Sorry, just saw this. The simmons went OK for me, but as I had made it to adult specs (3" thick) it was just waaaay too boaty for the kids. They couldnt turn it. After seeing the little short movies attached to the latest Surfing World, I am ...

Thats one of the great things about shed time, it takes your mind off the other important things whilst you are fiddling around. I hope things turn around for you Matticus, and I'll keep an eye out for the yellow nugget in the lineup! MIne is done, got the plugs in and sanded it over the weekend. Lo...

Re: Crowded point breaks
Most of the problem comes from the entitled attitude of beginner/intermediates who think the ocean owes them a fun surf no matter where they go. With all due respect Steve, I think the sense of entitlement lies with the so-called 'shit hot' guys that think that the rules they expect everyone else t...

Re: The Real Surf Backyarderz ... who are you?
I don't think the every day surfer knows how much of a bastard of a job sanding a surfboard is!!! They are very unappreciated. Absolutely, I hate the sanding bit!! On the plus side, my two little blokes (6 &10) now look at all the boards in shops with a new appreciation. Yes, happy to add myself to...

Yep, another Ozito/Shapers backyarder here! Loving the 2 year warranty on the Ozito stuff, I have had a couple of them 'accidentally' expire at the 23 month mark and they have been swapped by the lovely folk at Bunnings with hardly a second glance..... The board is looking great Matticus. I reckon t...

Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
Wingnut, the bottom is fairly simple - flat entry, slight doubles in the middle, to a little vee out the back. I'm just going with simple FCS plugs on this one. I have used Shapers 's-plugs' on may last few, but I find the install a little messy in having to drill two different sized holes. Matticus...

Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
Got my board hotcoated last night. Had some issues with massivley lumpy rails in the lam coat (think I left too much resin in them - will try the brush method for lapping rails next time), and spent the good part of a week sanding them back. No real issues apart from that, I even tried some ricepape...

....whereas Parko's was a longer wave, but nothing risky at all, IMO. All safe turns.....damn good, but safe, and he's rewarded with a 9.5 in the first few minutes of the heat. I reckon Parko's style works against him here. I reckon all 4 of those turns were as dynamic as any in the contest so far,...

Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
Matticus - its funny how things work, I went from Canberra to Syd to grab it! I agree, similar style of boards that we are making in a sense (easy paddling 'old blokes' boards!!). I actually thought long and hard about making this one into a nugget style before deciding on this shape. I'll be watchi...

a) they may not have practiced it. Bringing a badly injured or unconscious person back to the beach on a short board is not a piece of cake. God yeah - tried that last year in a fairly standard 3/4ft beachie, and bugger me if it was like trying to wrestle a cake of soap, and took us a good 10 min t...

Re: 6'6'' seconds blank
Thanks for your time P_P, it was great to meet you and put a face on another realsurfer! I have put the sunny weekend to good use and started on the board. Its going to be a fishy/funboardy type thing for little waves, wide in the nose & through the middle for easy paddling, with a bit of a pulled i...

No issues from me Morgan - I thought Geoffs reasoning was fairly solid but if it works and you like it, more power to ya. I had been trolling this thread as I recently bought a 7foot nugget. Yes, a surftech! I have always wanted to try a McCoy, and this was too stupidly cheap to go past. I've got a ...

A handful of flour does a similar thing (note quite as good as foam dust, but it works).

Re: Storm Surfers 3D
I convinced my wife to come and see it with me last night. The last surf movie she saw was the ASFM tour a few years ago, and swore NEVER to see another again... She gave Storm Surfers an 8 out of 10! I agree with northeasterly, the 'story' theme made it interesting for those that cant sit through e...
