Re: Where did you surf today ?
Was out on a lonesome bank locally when I spotted a blowhole pretty close in and saw a hump break the surface. I jumped off my board and swam underwater about ten times listening to it singing. What a blessing. And a privilege. A blessing and a privilege. Whale #1 to rest of pod "Attention pod, we ...

That ballina 7 whale just looks like he's feeling a little bit flat, push him back out.

And they are also fcuking impractical things to move around on land. That's a point worth considering. Nick probably has the luxury of leaving his craft in the clubhouse. The novelty of loading a ski onto the roof, especially if it's a tall vehicle like 4B, then unloading it and carrying it down to...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Is there any evidence culling Sharks works?. And how do we identify which sharks to kill?, just the closest to the boat? The W.A. cull was a disaster, financially, in a public relations sense, and in practical results. Not one single Pointer caught. 172 sharks caught, 68 "shot" Nobody feels any saf...

Here's my take on it Woolly. I can't see how a cull would make any difference. There's always sharks around, always will be.
To me there's no point even considering it.

My limited understanding of tracking fish (I refuse to say sha.. any more until all this blows over) is that radio signals do not travel through water, so GPS only works when the sha... fish surfaces, as Nick said. Sonar tags can only indicate where the fish has been if within a certain proximity to...

My son's mate Kyle, at boneyards near Dunsborough. Well, they recovered his torso. Son had been out there with him the day before. Those 2 deaths on consecutive days at Cactus and Blacks are the ones that really stick in my mind. Local myth is that it was the same shark, a big old, but lean shark in...

I recall a case where a diver was killed, SA or WA, he was wearing a shark shield but it wasn't turned onBraithy wrote:I read it all too. I'm not sure either would do much of anything with a white around.
Wasn't one of the divers who got taken in WA wearing a shark shield?

Re: Ask Carroll
Board selection question Nick. Knowing you have a decent quiver from which to choose, does duck diving ever come into the equation when deciding what board to use on a particular day? I know for me at least, I've taken a bigger board out on a solid days, to suit the wave size but paid the price tryi...

I am not sure there is much choice in it though, like do you choose who to fall in love with? On some level perhaps. But there's plenty of examples of people falling in love even when it is insanely inappropriate. I myself have experienced this. Who was he? She, cranked. You're not really getting w...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
I am not sure if as a fisherman you would have seen a whole lot of evidence of the great white shark migration, I imagine you would have been seeing a lot of other kinds of shark, mako and bronze and the like, but a lot of them might have gone missing when there are big tigers or white sharks aroun...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
How close in do whales swim at Ballina/Byron? Like the general migratory group? Do they generally come in within 2k of the coast or closer. or are they out 8-10k? I don't know about up there, but in the Newcastle, Port Stephens, Central Coast area whales come real close on the their way north. Like...

Also came across some advertorial announcing that they will make a Shark Shield version to be built into a surf board, ETA early 2016.. The guy that owns Katana Surfboards in Perth already has Surfsafe which is built in and rechargeable. http://surfsafe.net.au Installation vid.http://surfsafe.net.a...
