Re: Ask Carroll
Was very into the clubby scene as a youngster. Faded away and stopped training and competing in my late teens though, when partying became more of a priority.

Re: Ask Carroll
for surfing fitness, the 2.5k version is fine. if you want to be an iron man and spend 1.5 hours + a session, 6 days a week the bottom one more like it.
I swam about 30-35km a week doing sessions that make that one above look fun for most of my teenage years. Don't enjoy it so much these days

Re: Ask Carroll
good looking swim program there. Another option if you don't want to fork out Gym fees is a program called convict conditioning, which is a strengthening program based on bodyweight exercises. I've found it good for building lean strength, ie getting stronger but not bulking up, and encourages bette...

Re: Boards that "die"
waaaaaaayyyyyy back to the original post question. I've tried PU/PE, PU/Epoxy and EPS/Epoxy. PU/PE everyone knows the story. PU/Epoxy, feels good, lighter than PU/PE, dents but doesn't ding, but eventually the PU foam loses its mojo and the board turns to junk. HD EPS core with nylon, cork and s-gla...

Re: Ask Carroll
Nick,
Did you get that custom board off tomo that you spoke of a while back yet?
I'm a pretty big fan of his MPH stuff, wondering where you feel it lags/ could be improved in relation to more contemporary high performance craft.

tom's rise was well documented in his first autobiography from memory (read it 4 times back to back as an 11 year old)? no need to re hash it all.

Re: mini mal fin advice.
i am not aware of one. though i imagine the little fcs plugs wouldn't last long with the pressure of a large single fin on them.
If you really want to go that way, i'd suggest cutting out the plugs and routing a box for a single fin in.

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Surfed the outside boils till dark on Saturday and from first light on Sunday. Probably call it more regularly 8ft on the sets out there but without a doubt there were a few 10fters, and they were the ones to look out for and dodge. Every 20 mins a clean up would mow through and cause carnage. Not ...

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
windang island, barrack point (both sides) had some of the biggest waves i've ever seen yesterday - it was certainly not a swell oversight in the Illawarra. I've seen photos of wild 10-12ft waves (being ridden) at Coogee on Saturday arvo. While late Saturday and Sunday morning I was dodging 10ft se...

Re: Localism
I have a pretty popular wave that is literally the closest wave to my house, about 2km away, there is a definite pecking order of long time old school locals and I respect that in the water, let them get the good waves, don't hassle, have a chat with most of them, and generally get enough ok waves t...

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
surfed a 5'10, with a pulled in round tail, stubby nose today and yesterday. not overly stoked on the board - but waves were solid. probly 6ft with some 8 ft wide sets. After the takeoff though, the good part of the wave where it was walling up and running was more like 4 ft. So my 5'10 felt skatey ...

New bay - fresh sled
Have finally got my new shaping bay up and running about 8 months after moving into my new house! Haven't shaped a board in that time, so thought i'd knock something weird and wonderful out for myself to knock the dust off my skills. ended up with a 5'6/ 5'5 x 18.5 x 2.38 asym, concaved deck planing...

most of the time when invite only events happen, they invite a couple of the local chargers. This time, none of the local boys got a call up. A bit on the nose if you ask me.

Re: Show us your planers
$89 from memory, has a good handle position for shaping and has gotten me through about 50 boards so far.
I plugged up the dust chute on the side with a foam off cut and cut a hole in the top of the body for my vac hose.
