Re: Suggested boards for Bali in September
How big are you comfortable with? There are less big swells at that time of year. Second hand boards have dropped in price over there, so you could always take the smaller board, then pick up a gun if a big swell rolls in, and you want a part of it. Carrying a second board is a bit more of a hassle ...

Re: The Drifter
Zen and Zero was a fun watch.
Looks like a lot of time and effort went into it.
It's more a road trip than a surf movie.

Re: The Drifter
Just watched it. Tripe. No sense of humour to it, other than the taxi scene. Never seen anything so earnest. Love the idea of the solo traveller, throwing away his mobile phone, then dedicating the movie to his 2 daughters at the end. Nicely shot, and some nice waves tho. Watching Machado write deep...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Not trying to be smart here, but as I said, my wetties last forever. The last 3 haven't lost any stretch. One full steamer, one short sleeve steamer, one springsuit. Generally just wear in areas where they are constantly rubbing but they don't flush water in during wipeouts or paddle outs. My wetti...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...
Neoprene breaks down over time, with exposure to the elements. With newer & better wetsuits, you have a thinner, more flexible neoprene. I assume this is why your old suits would last several years, and the newer ones only 2 if you're lucky. Someone was making wetsuits out of non-neoprene - but I ca...

There was an old Seinfeld joke, that if this was the case, you could go skiing naked, as long as you had a really good hat.

Hoods can be annoying though, especially when they fill with water and you can't hear a thing, but the good thing about them is the help they provide in keeping your body so much warmer (you lose 80% of your body heat through your head), Fraid not - this myth has been busted. http://www.guardian.co...

Re: BUYING INDO LAND
As Newy 87 says - depending where you are, you'll want a local living on the land full time. Friends have bought and built around Medewi with great success. Plenty of inconveniences, and you'll have to put in a lot of work if you want it to be a moneyspinner, but if its somewhere to live permanantly...

I was up at the Manly Hydraulics Lab the other day.
Thought some of you might like to see what generates your wave data.

Re: What's your longest break from surfing?
Currently on my back with a badly busted disk in my back (L5/S1 - the old favourite)
Been 2 months so far, at least another month to go.
Can't even sit up on a chair or stand in the pub let alone go for a surf.

WHO is J.O.B. (Jamie O'Brien's new flick) was partly shot on the Canon 5d mk2.
The 7d and 1d4 both have some better features.
Still very clunky in a number of ways, but great results can be had.

Re: Creating an Indonesian bank account? can an Australian?
I have a commonwealth bank account, but still was stung with the foreign withdrawl charge. I take over as much $aud cash as I can, and put in the room safe, or a secure box at reception. -keep it in labelled envelopes (meaning the cleaner/staff can't take the occasional 100,000 without you knowing. ...

Re: Riding Motor Bike in Bali
I'd always go for a driver - no hassles, and you can learn a bit if you get a good guy. Plus he'll look after your stuff while you're surfing. (especially good if you have pricey camera gear) Taxis are good for short jaunts, tho more expensive than they used to be. (2 boards in the front seat when r...
