Re: Where did you surf today ?
First surf back in Oz since Indo at my local beachy, 3 foot and kinda sloppy but public holiday crowd were laid back, first time wearing a wetty on the board too. A hasty comb over on tropical wax wasn't good enough though.

Re: V. small wave grovellers
Sometimes I wish I still had my Don Burford clubby racing mal, that thing was the most fun you could have on your knees. It was amazingly agile on a decent wall.

Re: Ask Carroll
Recently you mentioned possibly of heading off to Hawaii soon, which got me thinking. Is it a viable surf destination for someone who's had too many birthdays and a self imposed ceiling of 6' on wave height? Any bigger and I'm in survival mode these days, and not having fun anymore. I've always assu...

Re: floatation aid
I inadvertently pulled the rip-cord on my inflatable PFD-1 while getting out of the boat at the ramp one day, much to the amusement of everybody present. There is no way you could swim in one of those things once inflated, you are quite hamstrung.

In hindsight a good call by the mod. Nobody wants to see the aftermath of a bizarre gardening accident involving a high profile polly and a pointy garden gnome.

[quote="Matticus Finch"]Do you have any photos you can share Mentone? I'm still quite keen on South Sumatra if I can afford it, I'd rather see normal photos than the publicity shots./quote] I can show you dozens of pics like these that I took over the last couple of weeks, but I'm still conflicted a...

Re: Peeing on your hands to cure blisters.
Had a mate a few years back with a German girlfriend who was quite a bit older than him. She used to drink the first piss of the day every morning, both his and hers.. That must be a very German thing to do, there was a German couple going to the gym I use, who used to drink their own pee…..geez ma...

Re: Treat the CAUSE not the SYMPTOM
I'm going to experiment. I have Blueberries on my cereal, and that site says berries have a lot of salicylates, which can cause dizziness, it's a good place to start.
Health was so simple for the first 50 years, now it's a hobby.

Re: Treat the CAUSE not the SYMPTOM
The body can throw up some real mysteries. I've been getting weird dizzy / swimming head kind of episodes for a couple of years now. Sometimes it goes away for a few days, and it usualy only lasts a couple of hours but comes and goes, but it's only mild and doesn't stop me doing anything I want. Som...

Re: First OS surf trip.
When I got to my last tropical destination and went to pull the board out of it's travel cover, it was glued in. It must have been left sitting in the sun for some time on a tarmac baggage train. Had to get a long stick in there and pry things apart. I used O'Neill superfreak booties and was s...

Re: Ask Carroll
Yes well it isn't going to do you much good karma wise if you go around doing bad deeds to people justifying it because its their karma. If you believe the premise then their karma has nothing to do with whether you are going to fry as a toasted cricket in your next life. I was joking there, it's t...

Re: Ask Carroll
Nick do you believe that Karma really operates in the world?
Personally I've found that it seems to apply when I'm in Asia, but not so much in Oz, and friends have made the same observation
I like the idea that I can do bad things to people, and assume they had it coming.

Re: My rashy is killing me
i eventually found something I am 90% happy with. had some time to kill while waiting for a flight so caught a taxi to the mega_super_ripaquickbong district in Denpasar and found a single solitary Ripcurl short sleeve rashy which, given the stretch test, had almost no stretch and didn't feel rubbery...

Re: First OS surf trip.
If you want to try south sumatra, i think the best thing to do is just book a stint at one of the surfcamps. There is a strip of camps/losmen at the villiage of tanjung setia, all right at the wave known as ujung bocur, a longish lefthander of intermediate difficulty. There are other waves, but ujun...
