What pisses me off about bodyboarders? 1. They don't require any skill at all to do it 2. They hog the waves by taking off on the inside and demanding right of way (this is because of lesser skills required than standups). 3. They don't seem to care that they take all the waves. If they get 100 wave...

Layne
Layne deserves praise - she's lifted women's surfing into the limelight. She's also very respectful of other's rights while surfing with mortals like us - doesn't hog waves, doesn't drop in, gives everyone their own space. Unlike Nat who I notice isn't even nominated.

Sandy Beach on Oahu
Sandy Beach on Oahu has a nasty shorebreak. More hospital cases come from Sandy Beach than from all the other beaches (including Waimea) on Oahu combined.

Monterey Bay C.A. surf reports - a waste of space?
I am a regular (Sydney) reader of the Realsurf reports and occasional contributor when on surfing holidays. I am interested in the overseas surf reports, especially having visited the USA and Bali a few years ago. Frankly though I find the Monterey Bay CA surf reports to be a waste of space. The rep...

Commodore keys
I have a VX Commodore. I got a key cut at the locksmiths (it cost me about $30) that unlocks the door only. I tie that key inside my Sluggoes and hide the electronic key in the car (I'm not saying where!).

Lennox
Joe Blow mentioned Lennox. There's a story (myth?) that's been around for quite a few years now that Mark Richards refuses to surf Lennox Head because of its perceived shark problem. Anyone know the truth?

I must say that I have read it in shark attacks prevention warnings. Other risky bahaviour includes:- 1. Pissing in the water ( a sign to a shark of an animal in distress) 2. Open cuts, menstruating (sharks can sense blood one kilometre away). 3. Swimming with dogs, horses (they emit more "food" sig...

Sharks
I thought that I saw one at No-Mans about 6 weeks ago, it was spooky as is surfing in murky water like at Ocean Beach Umina. Looking from the shore I believe that I saw 2 sharks patrolling Gallows some years back. Oddly after all his years in the surf, Nat Young claims to have never seen a shark whi...

More girls/women in the lineup will help prevent aggro
I must agree with an earlier poster and say that whenever females are in the lineup there is no aggro as "the boys" seem to be of their best behaviour. I'm sure there's a valid sociological explanation for this suffice to say that more women could well lessen surf rage.

Yappa's right - it was BIG in 1974
Yappa's right - May 1974 was HUGE! The storm washed away the mermaid boulder on North Bondi headland, a large boulder that had been there for over 50 years. It also destroyed the Paragon Restaurant which was way behind Bare Island in what was considered a really protected section of water. The Bare ...

Try Fort Point if you visit San Francisco
I know wer'e talking Sydney but Fort Point in San Francisco Bay, directly below the southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge (where the girl in Hitchcock's "Vertigo" movie jumps into the bay), is also a novelty break only picking up waves in huge swells and providing a short, fast and cold lefthander....

Night surfing
Interesting concept but what about the noahs? I'm paranoid about surfing in murky water, let alone completely black water. I recall TC saying after that night comp at Cronulla (circa 1987) that he was worried about what lay beneath. Remember "Jaws"? As an aside I watched some locals night surfing (u...

ASP World Tour
I would be more interested if they more often surfed waves that us mortals wouldn't dare touch eg. Teahupo (hope I spelt it right) and Big Waimea rather than to seal off small-days popular beach breaks such as Northy and Manly for tournaments.

Buy it in Bali - let's help the poor buggers
Next time you go to Bali, buy your surf gear there. You may be lucky enough to get the original article. Even if you don't it will be at a fraction of the price. I still wear a (probably) fake Billabong shirt that I bought in Bali in 1997 for $5. Balinese are one of the loveliest races in the world ...

Localism can take care of itself
Localism tends to sort itself out - eg. DY point locals take off behind the curl. If you don't you will be waiting a long time for a wave - no need for localism or aggro here, just skill. The ones who piss me off (not at DY) are blow-ins who arrive in groups of 2-3, paddle right past everyone to the...
