Re: Midlengths

The ONLY good thing about Zots is that its a lot easier to add plugs for side fins. QUAD UP AND FLY! Dropped the two Zots off this morning to have plugs for quad fins glassed on. Ive owned 7 Mcoys that had interchangeable fin combos.....a Quad set up has been far the best surfing sensation up to th...

Re: Midlengths

So many fin combos you can try with fin boxes. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_Aid9aEPTMW8/TL2oQerQcqI/AAAAAAAABc8/Il01WKBxqBk/solo%20horan%20012_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800 Is that a mcoy?....ha ha ha 2016 was a monumental year for GM, he actually caught up on 25 years of innovation by including detachable ...

Re: Midlengths

I've had a couple of meyerhoffers. The 7'6 paddled like a 5'10. The 9'6 was good though. My mate just snapped his SLX epoxy one after about 5 years. Found another. He loves it. Turns better than any 9'6 he's ever ridden in 30 years of surfing. I had a 9/6, didn't like it at all....also had an 8/0, ...

Re: Midlengths

Do people really care about what they look like walking down the beach? Really? Amazingly some do!....For me its all about how it feels, the Pose doesn't come into it. Ive ridden and owned some bizarre looking surfcraft...the BROWN ONION....a DEEP VEE bottom circa 68(stubby era) with a narrow nose(...

Re: Midlengths

I have no bias, Ive made boards for myself....was "part of the team"...(his words no mine) of a highly regarded shaper/designer.

The bottom line is McCoys work....espescially IF you tune the fins in....

Re: Midlengths

Its funny Jam, in 96 I went to Byron and bought a couple of McCoys. The 6/8 was 2.5 thick and the 7/0 was 2.75 thick. If you look at TSA website you will notice width and thickness descrease as the size decreases. All rounders and Lazer zaps go down to 2&5/8.Thats at 5/6.

Re:The Sherpa....He's making yet another variant on the carver and amping it up for the hipster market. That would suit me fine. His boards work well for older surfers. Herring is hardly an average surfer. You didn't request an average surfer, you requested "someone"....,.it just so happens that so...

Re: Midlengths

There's also a few clips of a guy surfing a 6'6, 7'0, and 7'6 from memory on YouTube somewhere. I remember thinking I wanted to try a nugget a while ago when the emporium in Sutherland opened. That guy only stocked the glass thai nuggets( or did then)....the XF poxies are excellent in weak to mid s...

Re: Quiver thread

Epic, Nick - you should create a board-riding lotto system. Charge $200 a ticket and let the winner choose a board and go surfing with them for an hour. OK then gang, imagine you were in said lottery and won, what board would you pick? I wouldn't mind trying either 8/6, seeing I haven't had a gun t...

Re: Midlengths

An Astron Zot story - maybe not quite a midlength for this thread, but close in volume. I bought two Zots, a 6'8 and a 6'1, just before I left for Bali. I've been riding them and yeah, they drop in nicely and are solid and reliable, but there was certainly no high performance stuff going on. Very p...
