Shaun - I'd not thought of all those Blueys and Sea lice and other nasties - but they are a pain too for sure -especially "groinal" bites as you say.
More on the physical stuff and how the hell I could have avoided them - if at all. Guess it comes with the territory most cases :?

HIT BY YOUR OWN BOARD
Was thinking about injuries I've sustained over the years from being hit by my own board (and others too). Wondering how often and under what circumstances others had this same problem? Like stitches in head from shut down barrel or :x  Close out shore dump smashes :( (many sprains) or Broken...

Telecommunications Consultant - working mostly in the Wholesale Telecoms arena. RV - was that Milk bar where the Radisson is now? Used to be run by the same family for ages (the Counsels I think - son Micky was a pretty hot Manly/Mid Steyne surfer) - Pluto Pups and Scallops were the go Karlos, as we...

Double post I know. Fongle - I hear everything that you're saying - not saying that I agree with it mind you. How does your stance vary on those that are unable to hit the waves due to illness (temporary - bad flu, or more long term ie. Nic Nac??). I'm fairly certain that an enforced layoff doesn't ...

Yep - like RV says - make time. I remember being told something along the lines of - just substitute housework for any other mundane pain in the arse "have to do" job. "You'll never remember that great day you cleaned the house the best its ever been (and then it only gets dirty again) - but you wil...

Kneeboards and indeed kneeboarders have been a fairly ecclectic bunch over the years - and as more than one or two have commented, they are all sorts. There used to be an annual Easter Kneeboard Comp for years at Duranbah. More long beards, Peugot 203s and varied craft you'd ever see in the one plac...

Round 4, Qtrs and Semis were just farkin unbelievable. So many 9's and above - so many come from behind combos. Bede's 9.4 with less than 2 minute to go over Mr. Slater - classic. Kerrsy's reverse rail grab/invert (or whatever it was) - sublime. Yeah yeah - froth, froth. The final was a bit of an an...

Ricardo - correctamundo. The colours looked like something "Miiister Haaart" might have done - or maybe something trippy for the times. I even seem to recall they had like a 6B pencil line down the middle to make them look like they made a stringer. A mate had a swirly pink mother - jeezus was it ug...

Could be what they called derisively a "pop out" = mass produced in a mould (sounds familiar), They had no stringers and Bill Wallace in Brookvale and Shane (I think) were the big dealers in these. Sounds like the shape and length and from memory they all had to be coloured as the production process...

Mr. Sassoon (mmm - thats not too original). I heard a rumour that Jack and Gordon don't get on too well these days. Jacks got a factory/shop at Miami and quite a following in terms of people who ride his boards - no big names, but some very good local guys. Gordon is glassing (maybe contract I think...

Riccy Ricardo - I knew what you meant - just funnin' with ya. Seems I'm chatting more about pubs than surf (note to self - "drink less, surf more"). Spoon - Simpsons Rd is a classic spot - views down south to Byron and Mt Warning - amazing. Gordon Knight -a nother ex Manly/Nth Steyne boy lives up th...

Just re read you post Ricardo. The Surfers Beer Garden and the Broadie were two different locations - equally popular and full on those fun luvin', funky types in the photos. Sadly, both have been swallowed by "progress" - but as a token acknowlegment, there are Bars in the highrise developments on ...

Tricky Riccy - the reason you didn't frequent pubs in your youth was cause ther was no pub at the "Gowlah" In fact, between the old Mosman Hotel and the Millers Manly Vale (Bryants to those younger than I) there was not a pub at all as such. But being from a sailing background, you may have enjoyed ...

Come on guys - I know that those of us who are old enough to remember are losing all types of faculties. But have a read of the caption under the beer drinking session. It say "apres surf in the Surfers Paradise Beer Garden". So Ric - not the Broadie - though that place and the Patch at Greenmount w...
