Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Captain - i'm not much of an analyst when it comes to design - but from the pic, it has a pretty boxy tail with softer rails and less edge further up. Excellent hold and release, certainly not a board you snap at the lip with (at least with my ability). I'm not a big guy and really seem to have to g...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Hey Davros, i doubt very much you'll be disappointed with Mackie's boards - he is a master and a bloody good surfer to boot. I remember as a grommie watching him take on some heavy waves at Shark Island. I have checked out some of his boards more recently at sixounce and he seems to be doing everyth...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Davros, i got it 2nd hand, it may have belonged to mackie? I like it in bigger faster waves and find it turns really well, especially that first bottom turn. At 6, 21, 2 5/8 it feels like a lot of board. Sometimes find the transition from thrusters and quads to this interesting - you can't pump for ...

And i ride a mackie bonzer - see pic

How do you get a campbell brothers board over here? I'd like to try one of those contemporary ones.

Re: Mini Simmons

I had my 5'1 out at the farm today in clean 4ft - it goes off in walls and crumbling waves from 1ft-4ft, i don't ride anything else in these sort of conditions now. But it is not my board of choice in sucky shoreys  They are different from a mal, you'll get more push on a 1fter from a mal, but ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I rang Marc to find out what the "GO" was. He is retiring. He did mention this when i last picked up a board, but i didn't think it would be so soon. He has been involved with Geoff for almost thirty years. He did say that Geoff wanted to expand the business. Not sure what that entails - although th...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

OG - last winter i paddled out in 6ft heavy surf at Windang Island on my 5'8 nugget....third wave i got caught out on a slab i thought i could make, but the rail just stuck to the top line and over i went. Hit the board face first and broke my nose badly. I was an amateur boxer for many years and i ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Too true on Horan Kookster, just taking a dig at rockspider on sways - it's a boring argument that i've heard too many times. Gerry had a zot and he alludes he is happier on the tiny potbelly -- i wonder if Geoff will ever make a thruster zot? And what would be the surf-able differences?

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

One day Cuttle. I am firm believer that we got it so wrong. If i had it my way, we'd all be swinging from trees and surfing (what boards? i'm not sure...) As far as jobs, bills and money, well they would only be spoken of like the boogey man or vampires - as in "Go to sleep or you'll be forced to ge...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Good boards, i like em, but you'll always find people that hate them even though they've never ridden them. I have found it to be a consistent problem here: http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/geoff-mccoy-surfboard-design-theory?page=1 Before you attempt to dispel the myth behind a design you should al...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I am a big fan of the nuggets and have ridden a number of them. My fav is my 5'8 all rounder. I rode it almost exclusively for twelve months and it goes great in a number of conditions. It loves a sucky wave - the soft rail and loaded dome do their magic well. Came close to getting a zot but ended u...

Re: Mini Simmons

I'm with you cpt - all this board needs is a wall, no matter how small or lumpy. It doesn't suit a close-out, but what board does? I'm really enjoying mine, but then again i like experimenting with a range of surf craft and avoid riding a 6'4 pencil thin thruster unless the conditions suit - in whic...

what kind did you try? what sort of short board would you replace it with for the conditions you surfed in?

Re: Mini Simmons

Nice looking board wingnut - that a Black Apache? What dimensions? I'm riding one of Pridmore's Dim Sims - 5'1, 20 7/8, 9/16. Just started on it (sorry MP cut the curing by a day or two!) and boy what a blast. Tried it at a few different breaks to get a feel for what it likes. There was plenty of sw...

Re: Mini Simmons

wow 3'8 - is that the size of a body board? He is an outstanding surfer no doubt. Great to hear the significant difference in those boards cuttle - it would make an interesting quiver - just mini-simmons!
