Re: Frugal rhymes with Portugal

^haven't seen any interviews live, but I caught some of that muppet somewhere. figure that's why it's been cut out of the Heats on Demand... yeah, Jordy's given up, Dane's patchy. It's Mick and Kelly for the title. Remains to be seen whether Taj can step up or once more disappear into the wilderness...

Re: not another F..king travelling board FFS !!!

hey mark, got a design question for ya, not sure if RS is the right place for it... :) it looks like it's pretty darn wide at the back, with the wide point almost at the tail. i can see that'd make it fast and fun for those with balance and some finless experience, but would it make it too loose for...

Re: Frugal rhymes with Portugal

was thinking the same thing Prids. I don't like the lame little foam bounce thing CJ always does to try and bump up the score, but he's great at threading barrels. Although Gudauskus (sp?) looked alright, the one who took down Melling. Not sure how the other one beat Freddy P, Freddy was pretty fast...

di99er, you got your G back!

Cheers DonW. I suspected as much!
hopefully it'll be getting round enough for some shelter from the wind.
I'll take a few boards over to cover a range of options, and to counter the sweep. and make me less attractive to noahs...

Re: how do you rate your state Surfing Australia branch?

OK a hypothetical here... imagine you are senior in running your state branch and you have say, a surf school, or a kid trying to crack the tour. Vested interest or not? Honestly, I reckon a large proportion of people in sports admin are only there because they're either reliving their glory days, ...

Re: Australia vs. USA Culture

Germany is the only European power who has seriously considered the China Question and restructured it's economy as a result ergo: it is the only relevant country in Europe right now and into the mid-term future. Norway, Steve? They've got more than 1% of world capital, and rising. Russia seems to ...

Re: Australia vs. USA Culture

this thread has been on topic for way too long... :) as a tangential observation that follows on from Skipper, i saw a group of middle eastern origin in the city on Sunday. there was one guy, and two girls. The girls were in full traditional dress, one in a burqa and one in what i think is called a ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

it may not be as far south as you lot, but Tweed council isn't exactly a benign altruistic organisation, at least not from the recent planning decisions. I had to pull over and shed a tear the first time I crossed the wooden bridge and saw the clearing for Salt. Byron council tries hard in a number ...

Re: Australia vs. USA Culture

thankyou for the clarification. now, about this bit: Mostly college kids, some teachers and coaches too. We were on a baseball tour, played in Florida, Arizona and Texas. Most of the guys were early 20's late teens, educated and some were well travelled, some weren't. I wonder how many of those stud...

The Cronulla race riots probably epitomise everything wrong with this new dynamic society you speak of. imo ... how the f#$k did you take what I wrote, and link it to support for race riots? or racism of any kind? the riots, as far as i understand, were in fact the complete opposite of what i sugge...

Re: Australia vs. USA Culture

Braithy, you seem to be assuming that adhering to tradition is indicative of greater strength of culture. if that's the definition of culture you want to go with, then I'd happily be part of a 'less cultured' group. I'd much rather be part of a dynamic, rapidly evolving, multicultural society than o...

Re: how do you rate your state Surfing Australia branch?

dug, I'm one of the vast group of recreational surfers for whom Surfing NSW (in my case) has absolutely no relevance. The only time I notice them is when a comp monopolises the only bank that isn't in the flags of a weekend, or when a new surfing reserve is announced. On the latter, I assume that so...

Re: Spring. How's it lookin?

fong, the very particular place we were chatting about won't be working. it needs at least twice the swell. more of a 'once every 2 years' kind of option. I've been going there 29 years and only surfed it twice, only heard of it being good about 5 other times. got a brother nearby at the moment, he ...

Re: Ask Carroll

I feel wasteful using up one of the last posts, but thought I'd sneak a couple in: In truly competitive, driven people there seems (as an outside observer) to often be an underlying void that is filled through the competitive outlet. This sometimes stems from great tragedy or loss, sometimes from in...
