Well, forget the writing, the political insights and the keen observations of surfing and its industry, the most impressive thing about Nick Carroll is that he makes a proper pot of loose leaf tea.
well, that's fcuking something.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

what I mean by that is in my lifetime, less than a hundred Kays away there has been a huge coastal engineering project which involved four government bodies (NSW state govt, QLD state govt, Gold Coast City Council, Tweed shire council) and a private operator. Rule of law?.....that was a legislative...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

Yep, felt pretty fcuking raw over there Legion. I take my hat off to the locals. The commitment is phenomenal given the perceived and recorded risks. Sitting out there in big water with solid swell over dark reef with those risks does get the pulse racing pretty hard.

Most importantly, hopefully Mrs Duck had a good trip.
The most important thing in the universe and thanks for being so cogent to that point. She had an epic time, notwithstanding her idiot partner.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Next trip head to the desert. You'll see guys getting waves. You've gotta remember, it's kinda isolated over here so whatever the rest of the world is doing can take a while to percolate over. Sometimes you'll stumble across jaw-dropping sessions though. I’m not saying it doesn’t get good Legion, I...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Noticed most west aus guys that I’ve seen in the last few days have been surfing thinned out rhino chasers when the surf gets solid. Like 6’10” or bigger rounded pin tails, foiled out. Pretty thin Doesn’t seem to help them enough when it’s 20 knots offshore and 8ft ground swell. Watched a couple of ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

So glad you’re here toots. Was onshore this morning in s/w WA so I didn’t bother surfing but the wind started dropping by mid morning so decided to go down to the comp and have a look . What a well oiled machine that thing is. It’s like auto pilot for most of the crew. The camera men looked bored as...

A middle aged man turning in small waves is rarely elegant but nevertheless speaks of something vital, of a refusal to surrender to the gathering gloom
fcuk the gathering gloom. that shit is like dark matter, it pervades the universe and controls everything.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah, I'm the the same. Been a dreadful, dreadful summer and autumn here......but up the road north of Byron to the QLD border there have been fun beach breaks. fcuked if I can be bothered though to drive 45minutes to surf 3ft beach breaks. I wouldn't last 2 weeks if I had to surf those junky Sydne...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

surely reefs not that far from you had waves BD? Yeah, no doubt there would have been a few switching on SS, but i tend to haunt my local few spots once i'm here and don't hit the highway much in search of other surf, mostly due to the fact a lot of the reefs get a decent crowd and there's generall...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

down south was one of those days today. Conditions were so beautiful mid morning, no wind, groomed swell with some grunt, water about 19-20 degrees, clear skies and that magic sparkle in the air that only autumn brings. The waves, however, were appalling. The island was an old man with dementia, con...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Enjoying quads at the moment......though not yet this week. What the fcuk does that mean Beany? Does everything have to be a compromise? I surf a quad exclusively, meaning i can never be bothered to change up the fin configuration and the quads seem to work in the board i ride, i think, so that's h...

epic BD. how did you plant trees into a concrete footpath? For the red cedar there was a small cracked piece in the footpath so i got out my angle grinder and turned it into a small square hole, about 350mm. The tree did the rest, causing Council to make the hole bigger as the trunk thickened. The ...
