First principles then:

The Lennox report is just the forecast swell as verifiable by your nearest buoy. It has nothing to do with wave height at Lennox so is useless as a surf report.
Nuts.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

On Magic Seaweed right now under Lennox head surf forecast there is a graph forecasting surf tomorrow at Lennox of 5.5ft (breakijng wave height).

Do you accept this as a forecast for surf here tomorrow for me to compare against?

Is that adequate evidence?

Re: Just general surfing stuff

As for predicting swell using a proxy or virtual buoy, have you not understood a single word about how that leads to nonsense outcomes?

You normally seem such a switched on guy Godsave.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Sorry mate, that is what they are forecasting.

Breaking wave height.

Unless Magic Seaweed has a different website in Wales.

At the the moment they are givijng it 2stars and saying its offshore.
Its onshore and close to flat.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Re virtual buoys MHL has a new hybrid product mixing wave forecasting and buoy data to produce inshore and near shore wave heights.
Havent had a chance to test it yet.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Do you know if any automated surf forecaster does this? It seems most unlikely. No, they don;'t and this is a major problem for their accuracy. Byron Buoy, for eg is actually located due east of Ballina Bar on the 65m depth contour (about 5km off the coast). It is extremely susceptible to wind and ...

Steve, do you know what data a wave buoy records and how that data is interpreted/processed/manipulated before being released? Serious question.

Yes I do.

But more importantly I know what are the confounding/contaminating influences on the buoy data.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

You’re either trolling me - in which case, well played, hook line and sinker etc etc - or you’re wilfully not hearing my explanation of their forecasts. ‘Scientifically’ would be you carefully documenting the swell as recorded by the Byron buoy and comparing it to the swell forecast for Lennox head...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I forget steve, is the straw man/ad hominem stage the one just before the acceptance and apology stage or do we have a couple more to go? You tell me, you opened your hand playing that card. Which I think only confirms my impression posted above. it's a kind of reverse colonial inferiority complex....

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Godsave comes out of the gates like a greyhound dosed with cobalt chasing a wounded rabbit when any impression is broadcast which paints the UK surfer as a bumbling, incompetent noob. Thats why he's so vociferously defending Magic Seaweed here, as a homegrown UK product. It's a tribal defence, not a...
