Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Do you know what Ted Clayton called his swansong masterpiece fishing article, about roaming those very same flats at Whitepatch that Fairweather is walking? You ready? The exploration of inner space. It is a wonderfully meditative and detailed natural history essay as well as an ode to "interconnect...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Given the shoreline of Southern Bribie has shifted around by 30-40m over the last 50 years due to cycles of erosion and accretion, the chance of it being the same tree is diabolically small. While that is true, particularly the area from Buckleys Hole around to the surf beach ......further north, f...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Hard to say Slob.
It could have been knocked over in a storm or cyclone, either there or at another location and washed up there.

It could have fallen over as a result of an undercut bank from a storm surge.

Who knows.

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Not really, they got shipped off to missions and pommy social climbers who can't surf own all the expensive real estate.

Well, the wives can surf baby food, the blokes all stay up late watching premier league and walking around the next day with hangovers and hangdog expression.

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

I think a testing/initiation system, such as the one that Bundjalung elders used to use here at Lennox, would be a beautiful idea.

If you fail, you leave.

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Dead rotting tree You silly pedantic old bugger, you missed the salient point of the whole thing. Which is, how could the same driftwood still be in the same place from a photo taken likely in the 60's until now? The answer is the Bribie Pine, Callitris sp. A native conifer with chemical compounds ...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Nice photo. Always seems weird in Qld to see someone on the beach in long pants and shoes, NOT that there is anything wrong with that. It's funny, last time we were on the island, I took my wife to that exact location. She has a photo of me fishing the flats there with that exact same driftwood on ...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

In March 1945 he embarked in an old lifeboat, landed by chance on nearby Bribie Island, and found 'the idea of the bush that haunted me in India and brought me back here against all reason'. He stayed seven months, but, after the theft of his diaries, moved to Melbourne and to Lina Bryans's Darebin ...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Bribie Island is named after a convict from the Moreton Bay penal colony who became the first European to live on the island. According to the folklore he became an expert at mud crabbing for the officers and was rewarded with his freedom. His name was Bribie and, once freed, he lived on the island ...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Bungaree became the first known Aboriginal person to circumnavigate Australia and contribute to the mapping of the Australian coastline. A short man with a sharp intellect, Bungaree arrived in Sydney in the 1790s with the remains of his Kuring-gai mob, after conflicts with white settlers had escalat...
