Re: Just general surfing stuff

yeah, Marg lives up the road. She is very much enjoying this stage of life.

I thought your point: that mainstream advertising is actually providing a more accurate reflection of surfing back to it than the typical myth and marketing very astute.

I don't think you are doing it right Salts.

Bring your gear down this way and I'll show you how to catch a flathead.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Settle down loof. steve spent time on the south coast, undisputed capital of kook. Elsewhere in the UK there are plenty of good surfers - I'm sure that when he was around Lynmouth and Millook the locals woulda kept him off most of the sets Yes Trev. Yes we do Had a great session at millook ....that...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Where's the entertainment value for non-surfers though? No understanding of surfing = incomprehensible scoring= boredom. It's gymastics in a pool minus the pre-pubescent bodies. Unless there is tits, violence, people getting booted off or ritually humiliated, right? Track cycling and snooker haven't...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Even cycling, embarrassing as it is, connects to vastly more people than any kind of surfing.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Competitive surfing has many outlets aside from the WSL. The one thing you can't replace here is the world championship. That is a massive touchstone in surf culture. True. That is the one golden goose they are in danger of fcuking with the new direction. But I actually think the Ments finale will ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Honestly, I think that feeling of a strong, direct connection to the contest culture probably ends with our generation. That unthinking placement of the world tour at the top of the hierarchy. I think it ended with Carrolls generation. Far as I can tell amongst my peers, interest is lukewarm at bes...

Re: Will spring have some zing?

I heard this bloke on the radio the other day; specialist in mental health and he was talking about some reasons for depression being seasonal and related to disrupted circadian rhythms amongst other things. Immediately the penny dropped. Soon as spring starts I feel this almost insane restlessness ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I actually think that view is a bit outdated to be honest. Do you know how many people identified as a surfer in the UK last year? 1.3 million, up 300,000 in just one year, and up from 500,000 in the mid 2000s. Mate, you know as well as I do, there is no "surfer" on the planet who slurps the old ro...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

It's never going to appeal to the mainstream Godsave....especially not in a pool. The mainstream has one connection to surfing: some kind of nature-God dancing on the ocean waves. Take that romantic notion away, which is what surfing is being used for as marketing tool and why so many adult beginner...

Still don't know why anyone but surfers would bother watching CTs though.

If they just manage to lock that down and solidify it that would be a massive leap forwards imo.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

A lot of things in life are not about the fcuking money: taking surfing, of all sports, down that track is a very sad moment for surfing. The very best result would be for the surfers to take a stand, and say no, this is not what surfing is. That would make them legends. They are fcuking pro surfer...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I don't have any scientific proof but it's my observations that the new families come in much closer on the way back and I believe they are right in on some bommies and bait reefs, possibly to scrape parasites off the skin ?
