Re: Modern Planing hulls

Watch it swiv, the wide tail police will be here in a minute shouting that you need four fins on a tail that big. The arseholes There are a few polls on the Firewire forum about the Evo's and fins. I've read that some punters have had some success with a twin + 1 setup. I never would have thought a...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

You had a good run Iggs. Was DOH+ here today. No doubt we'll be seeing you in the nulla some time soon. Looking forward to casting the eye over your new single. I don't surf the point that often, but I'd be keen to take the new single out in some 4-6 foot surf. I love the wave but it all gets a bit...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I had a blue and gold O'Neill in 1983. Go Parra. Think it was the Neck Chaffer 2000 model. Am noticing a lot more Patagonias around. Saying that you could wear a 2 ml springy in Sydney today. Last week I'd have agreed. I almost dusted off the 2x2 back zip it was that warm. I really noticed the hole...

Surely they'd be loads of whiting and salmon lurking around in those gutters.

Re: Modern Planing hulls

I had a quick surf during the lunch break. 3-4ft at Cronulla point, ssw wind. 5'5 x 19 1/2 x 2 1/2 30.5L Firewire Evo. Initial thoughts, and my level of skill won't require much more of an update on this "review" Fast, the thing's fekking fast. Paddling: Flat water - Board didn't seem to paddle as w...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I've got one on order. I'm a large short and Patagonia completely sold out of their yulex R1 (3/2) suits this winter in a few sizes. I'll let you know what I think after a few surfs. I've been in ONeill steamers since I started surfing in 2008, this is the first time I've given another brand of ste...

Re: Modern Planing hulls

I'm taking a big bite that's for sure. Maybe more than I chew.
30.5L lowest volume by a mere .5L
5'5 shortest by an inch. Had a few waves on a 5'6 webber mini fish. Never really gave it a proper chance as the super flat rocker wasn't my cup of tea.
Hopefully get in tomorrow arvo.

Re: Modern Planing hulls

to be brutally honest here, the MPH are really advanced surfboards for highly skilled surfers and are likely to retard your surfing if you don't fit that category. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the heads up. I don't fit into that category at all, far from it. It's too late now as I picked up the board...

Re: Single fin shortboards

The less effort, more relaxed you are, and more subtle you surf it the better it responds. It forces you to strip down any superfluous movement and really focus on the wave. You just articulated the biggest learning of my single fin tangent. And I can't wait to get my big red bastard down to bells ...

It's low, rolled. Bit of an edge to it but Nothing too sharp. The overall rail on the board is fairly thin-blade like but not sharp edged if that makes sense.
Had a chance to surf it? How does it go?
