Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

The NSW shark management strategy of patrols to reassure tourists is backfiring. Check this: https://www.facebook.com/Shark-Reports-716586421776202/ They're getting a sighting almost every day on the Ballina to Byron stretch. It might be better if people don't know how many sharks were sniffing arou...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I see Quik are trying to unload their Ignite 3/2 chest zip and zipless steamers for $165 on ebay. Anyone further north wear one over winter? (3/2 is my summer suit here in Vic)

FYI Had about 10 surfs in my Need 4/3 steamer - still very happy.

Re: Ask Carroll

Oh I agree, it clearly made a lot of people go WTF. I had a chicken skin reaction to it too. Definitely a hard one. I did notice that Kelly wasn't exactly claiming it on the way back out, he had the look of an NRL player who's got it over the line but knows the video replay is gonna end up ruling N...

Re: Trestles Hurley Pro 2015

Is it just a coincidence that Kelly's sponsors do not include those that contribute dollars to the WSL, compared to those of Micks? Is it just a coincidence that Kelly's management is part of ZoSea's management? So you're saying that Kelly's managers got him to throw the heat so Mick would have a b...

It was then I thought to myself, we've got a pack of 'surfers', which used to mean people who completely and definitively cared about the ocean and the environment, we've got a bunch of these people who want to burn an absolute colossal f uc kload of energy and fossil fuel in order to create a real...

Maybe the sharks aren't going to piss off

My hypothesis: the locations of the recent upsurge in attacks: Reunion, WA, Northern NSW are all close to whale migration paths. Whaling was shut down in the seventies and its only in the last ten years we've been seeing significant recovery in whale numbers. NSW is seeing 10% increase per year. Wit...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

The whale population that travels up and down the NSW east coast has been growing by 10% a year. Given whales are an important GWS food source, shark numbers are probably increasing at a similar rate. A local shark cull won't have much effect if the gravy train of blubber is going to keep increasing...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

well that gives rise to an awesome image doesn't it a few people sitting around waiting for the odd 3' set out at one of the Ballina beachies. suddenly: BOOM! A fishy suicide bomber in their midst Admittedly it might be quite alarming if one goes off while you're in the water. You'd need to figure ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

The trouble with GPS tagging is that the GPS doesn't work underwater. So you only ping the shark when it surfaces. Sharks can go quite a long time without surfacing. So while GPS tagging helps in the long term re identifying shark habits and so forth, it won't help you tell where the shark happens ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

Still, I don't know how easy it would be to kill those specific sharks. It would seem to be no harder than GPS tagging them. Then you could check an app for their current location before surfing. They could become an eco attraction while surfers just stayed out of their way.. If one were to build s...

ah yes, well as you will guess, sometimes the tank crew has to stay inside the tank for long periods, past their bedtimes etc, and certainly past the point of no return regarding their toiletary habits. So this is a device designed to expel urine. Tank crew just wee-wees inside a container attached...
