so. does this mean, all things considered, (so many possible subtle variations- foam type, outline shapes, glass thickness, fins, and all other in between), its inevitably a lottery? It's not quite a lottery but there are a lot of variables: Foil - new board might be thinner in the nose and tail - ...

There's a bit more to it than just volume. If you increase volume, the board will float a bit higher, therefore the entry angle is moved back where it is less acute (same effect as lowering nose rocker), which means you can paddle faster and in theory start planning sooner. Also, because the board i...

I lived in Japan for a couple of years and had all sorts of debauched adventures, but here's a surfing story. The headland you can see in the pics above is Enoshima. When you get a big typhoon swell there's a river mouth bar that can be quite good. Anyway, one time a typhoon swell is forecast to arr...

I would like to see pro surfing become more personal. Candid in the heat moments, smashing boards after heats, swearing at judges, partys with drunk groupies, cocaine and alcohol abuse, rehab stories, people wiriting off neco padaratz' surfing. now that would be cool.... Exactly, look what this has...

Generally their comp day will be on one day a month, usually a Sunday. But should they get full reign of a particular break  I don't honestly know. Anybody else got thoughts on this :?: I think it's cool for a comp to take over a peak on a beachy with a couple of peaks available. If t...

Re: Problem with my FIREWIRE!!!

why shouldn't you have pressure dings ? (and I'm talking heelies) I have a board Josh Dowling made for me prior to the advent of Firewire, it has the same basic construction - corecell, eps and balsa , two years old and the only mark on it is a tiny ding Josh put in it jumping up and down on it dem...

Re: Problem with my FIREWIRE!!!

Ok so I have had my firewire for a few months now and I recently noticed that there are air bubbles forming under the top layer. They mostly seem to be popping up where my pressure dings are. With a board of this type of construction, you shouldn't have pressure dents after a few months and you sur...

Here's Tim Bessell's version

Aren't US patents protected under Aussie law as part of the trade deal we did with the yanks?

That's interesting check this post from cdes1 last year. Apparanty La Jolla shaper Tim Bessell has already patented the same concept.

I was thinking of joining the Aussie forces, not apartheid era South Africa. I reckon theres a difference in Aussie forces vs many others. No, You're thinking of joining the Aussie army at a time when our defense policy is to sign on for whatever crazy shit the Yanks dream up. You basically putting...

DAC2000 - man have you thought hard about what you are doing? If you join the Army there's a good chance you will have to kill people. Unless you are Hanibal Lector, killing people isn't that much fun, in fact it does many soldiers heads in. I would need a very good reason to kill someone - right no...

I've been riding this type of boards for a while and I think they're hot poop too. My work is in online marketing and when I see what looks like a hamfisted attempt at manipulating a forum, it really annoys me, because these boards can stand on their own. I apologise Hornet if I've read you wrong - ...

Sh*t Hornet you used the word FIREWIRE a lot in that first post, Funny that 'cause, if someone were to type FIREWIRE into a search engine I'd imagine your post would pop up high in the results and would be very easy to see because you used CAPITALS to write FIREWIRE.

All of what NC says above is on the money I reckon. Maybe I'd add that denser rail material has an effect as well - perhaps eliminating the "corky" feel some people experience with boards like surftechs that have a low density core right to the rails. Hayden's not the only one putting rail stringers...

Don't confuse what Hicks did with what happened to him. Hicks is a psycho no doubt, anyone who voluntarily goes to war - thinking that killing people is a big adventure is a psycho. I wouldn't have cared less if he got a bullet in the head on the first day the Yanks invaded Afganistan or if he ended...
