Re: White Horses - new surf mag

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I'll check out Shaft (amusing name). And I'll keep my eyes out for White Horses.

Smith Journal actually had a job opening for an associate editor I was going to apply for. Then I realised it's in Queensland. I would have been perfect for it.

White Horses - new surf mag

Anyone seen this new surf mag? It's published by an imprint of Morrison Media (surfing life etc). The same group of folks are responsible for Smith Journal, I think. I quite like Smith Journal, so it bodes well. I got an email from them the other day; it's now available. $19.95 is a bit steep, but I...

Re: Bong in big trouble

I'm reading Salts & Suits. Never realised how intimately entwined Rip Curl and Quiksilver were in the very early days. Just up to the bit about the founding of Billabong. The thing I'm getting out of it so far is that although the founders of various companies might have been dodgy (and who isn't, i...

Re: surf betting

The betting agencies seem to take bets on just about anything... I'd imagine it depends on the number of people wanting to bet? (I don't know a thing about betting. always preferred to spend my pin money on other things)

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

i havent but would be keen to hear what you think of it. my E3 Rip curl needs replacing and was thinking of the R2. where did you get it? and as for size vs RC is it just interchangable, ie M=M? Got it from the Sugarmill, at Narrabeen. The sizing seems interchangeable, but obviously you want to try...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I just bought a new Patagonia R2 long sleeve springy. It's my first Patagonia. I usually buy Rip Curl, but I liked the suit, like Patagonia's corporate philosophy and so thought I'd give 'em a go.

Anyone else tried Patagonia?

Re: Why finless surfing is stupid and pointless

Fair point, Nick. Maybe groms could make something of it. But as it stands, it's basically spinners from here to infinity. And that's just dumb.

Why finless surfing is stupid and pointless

Here's a clip from Kye Fitz's upcoming flick called Wind Moon Tide. http://youtu.be/DJfxUPPuAqU It's Kye and Derek Hynd surfing in the western Sahara and, if nothing else, it perfectly demonstrates the utter pointlessness of finless surfing. All Hynd does are spinners, a manoeuvre better known for i...

Re: The Reef: Crowd-funding request.

I must confess I'm a bit worried about Roy's patented tunnel fin lassoing an elephant seal as they race down the line.

Also, since this is tandem, who does the hoisting? Will Roy lift Nick into balletic poses, or vice versa?

Perhaps they could do an interpretive dance in the barrel?

Re: The Reef: Crowd-funding request.

Could we get an illustrator in the house to sketch a portrait of Roy and Nick tandem surfing this left on a home-built board in the nude? Pref. in 3D No stiffies please, there's kids around. I dunno, given a) the length of the wave and b) Roy's poo-stance, I'm concerned about hanky-panky occurring.

Re: The Reef: Crowd-funding request.

Is this the place, Nick? http://youtu.be/Wull-UNWWCE Yeah except it'll be more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOWqf04tPzk that's insane. I had to watch it twice. There was an entire wave-length barreling before he even got into it! and then there was that bit towards the end where it turn...

Re: The Reef: Crowd-funding request.

Actually fcuk it. I want to go to Namibia, there's a series of mega storms aiming dead at that crazy fcuken 1km left barrel, next week's going to be ridiculous. No orchestras going as far as I know and I'd definitely be using fins, but holy Shit, it's an amazing wave. I'll tell youse all what it wa...

Hi Steve,

I wish you all the best in your quest for support. I can't see something about finless being anything more than niche, however.
