Full volume shortboard?

After selling my kayak, and having the cash burn a hole in my pocket, i bought myself a reasonably decent 6'6" shortboard. A bit old with a few minor dings, but, generally, a decent board. Anyway, to my surprise, i can actually get up on this thing ( im a newb, and i've been on a mini mal for the pa...

Good luck jaxon, i've just bought myself a 6'6" shortboard, after riding a 7'6" minimal for the past couple of months. Im a beginner, but i had a go at my mates 6' wafer, and to my surprise, i actually got up. Couldn't believe how much faster it was, not to mention turning. I sneezed, and turned 180...

Need some honest opinions

O.K fella's, out of the blue, it looks like someone might buy my kayak, leaving me with around 550 bucks to play with. Me and my mate are super keen to make our first board, BUT, my board is pretty dinged up and old, and is starting to get a new bruise, or crack in the rail every time i surf. Also, ...

Thanks for the dimension's ric, there may be one similar going around the south coast in a few months!!. Maybe not as pretty hahah!. So, by the dimensions, the wide point on that board is forward of the centre. Wanderer, its our first board, so, the bottom will not be fancy at all!, no concaves, unl...

Beanpole, does that mean that the widepoint would be more towards the back of the board, and also, what shape would the tail be??.

Please explain these products to me

Well, we are starting to look around at products, and when it comes to resin, we found there are a few different types. Can someone please explain what these are, and also tell me which ones are needed to make a first time board?? 1.) Solar resin additive 2.) Filler resin 3.) Wax in styrene 4.) Styr...

mini mals

Thanks ron, i have 3 kegs in a fridge out the back with a tap sticking out!, its horrible mate, truly horrible haha. Yeah my mini mal is a "sola performance" board. It does have a lot of rocker that extexnds quite a bit down the board, and by eye, seems to have a small amount of tail rocker. In fact...

Excuse my ignorance, but, what is the difference between a mini mal, and an egg in relation to dimensions??. I did a search, but could not find a side by side comparison in terms of length, width, rocker, tail, thickness etc. It seems that an egg is more manouverable ? Any advice would be much appre...

old board

Thanks mate, i'll give it a go. So how do i make sure a board is more "floaty" haha??, would i make the foam thicker??. Also, would i have to sand it right back to foam ,or can i just rough it up, and add a coat on top of the glass thats already there??

Questions about an old board

Myself and a mate are keen to soon make a copy of his 9' mal, which is our first attempt at making a board. However, i have an old short board in my shed, a 5 ' 10ish skipp, and i was thinking of sanding it back a bit, and adding another layer of glass on top of that, and then adding a hot coat. I w...

mini mals

Haha this is very funny. As a novice, who happens to ride a 7'6" mini mal :) , i can see the point of all your frustrations. Me and my mate ( 9' mal ) always stay away from other surfers, mainly for the reasons that we dont want to 1.) Get in the way. I'd hate to take a nice wave ( in a crowded brea...

Maldives

I have been to the maldives ( not sure if north or south, i believe it was south ). I did meet a surfer there ( aussie on holidays ) who said they had hosted some sort of pro event in the area. Don't know if he was full of it, but there was definately swell there. As to where, and how good it is, i ...

Also, where would you get it/them from in sydney?? 2. ) Also, what would be the best glass, and coatings to use with the above foam ??. 3.) Fins??, we will be looki...

Hello all

Thanks guys. I usually surf open beaches ( not good enough for points, definately not reefs! ). I did have a fibreglass kit, but it was a bit of mucking around, also, how much can i take off the deck before it gets leaking problems??, i mean, how thick is the layer on the deck?.

My question

Sorry, i forgot to ask my question!. I snapped one of the side fins on my board a few weeks ago, so, being tricky, i snapped the other side fin off, filled the holes with araldyte, and away i went!. 1.) How will this affect my boards performance ?? 2.) Will the araldyte affect the board ??, i've use...
