Re: Scotland

Pretty great train ride through the mountains past Loch Loman. Fort William is a pretty chilled out place. Bright and sunny afternoon when we got here.

Re: Scotland

get a go out Beany? Or are you too busy being a baby boomer and obsessing about food? Yes, being a baby boomer has definitely won the day. Went to Arran on the ferry yesterday. The wind was howling. Puffer jacket and rainwear. Could have used some gloves. Broderick is protected though as its on the...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Well I reckon measuring wave heights is communal; it's part of the grand and continuing narrative we all construct within surf communities. So and so says something so and so reckons something else......a consensus emerges; yep , it was 8-10ft with a couple bigger bombs and that is how the day is r...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Not by the wave face standard, Steve. Probably tend to accept your size calls....give or take a foot

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I reckon the surf industry is great at the moment. With the demise of the major players so many small creative players getting involved and making great stuff. Steve, I expected far more from that 69 video than you delivered. I'm expecting girl on girl tongue work and I get an old wolloper spitting...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Re: South Coogee....I've seen some of the biggest waves I've seen in Sydney breaking on that outer reef. I've seen people surfing it at that size. I've seen footage of Queenscliff Bombie that probably looks to be 18ft faces but I haven't seen it that big myself. I'm sure WA and Victoria gets bigger...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Minus 2 ft obviously Trev.
I find the big part of the....how big is the surf scale? Discussion the oddest. I don't think Ive ever seen a wave in Australia that I'd call bigger than 15 ft......maybe 18ft as in wave face size. That presumably would be 6-8ft on the Iggy scale.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

You need a job to live in Sydney......ie most people are working at least 9-5 5 days a week. thats another factor. Wouldnt that be much the same for regional places as well. Sure the rents a bit cheaper but surely the wages are pretty shit too..?? Of course. It's been a massive change here. The sur...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Renos cheater five. A classic example of the judging system not matching contemporary surfing.
I remember everyone complaining that the system also allowed MP to just do fifteen thousand little re entries and cutties on one wave and rack up points like a Pinnie machine.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I had a paddle. Nice to be in the water since I haven't had the time for a week or more. Waters getting cold. Didn't look particularly promising and the SE Wind was just starting to come up a little. Surprisingly I just sat on this little bank and was actually knocking a couple back as they just kep...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Re: talking to people about surfing. I've always worked with a few people who surf and we will often crap on about surf conditions. See a couple in the water semi regularly who live near by. That's tended to be the case for the majority of my working life. There's a few old stagers I have a chat to ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Trev, did you see the clip Stu Nettle highlighted on Swellnet? Surfabout 1974. Starts off with some very good Fairy Bower. MP, PT, BK, Reno, Gerry Lopez, Nat Young, Ian Cairns, Mark Warren etc. Good stuff. https://vimeo.com/204513295 Classic stuff. Nat looked good at the Bower. A lot of those board...
