Re: Where did you surf today ?

Surfed a super-mysto secret rock wall yesterday. About the only place that works in the persistant afternoon sea breezes Perth's famous for all summer long. And yet it doesn't often get too crowded despite its location. It's early in the season but because of the nightmare last month it's already t...

I've got to ask the question Iggy but can you really notice the difference between 2 1/2 and 2 9/16?

Re: How much does it cost to make you're own board?

I attempted a make a board once in the early 90's. After creating a very thick, assymetrical craft with uneven rails and bottom contours, I decided that a custom stick from a decent shaper was an absolute bargain. You should try it at least once, and unless you a great with tools and your hands, you...

Re: Webber Afterburner, Fatburner & Spoon

Cheers for the feedback guys, the concaves are what leaves the question mark in my mind. They would have to be the deepest concaves I think I have ever seen and I'm guessing there is a reason most boards don't have concaves that deep... not sure what that reason would be though.

She wouldn't make a feasible SUP. . . being relatively narrow, thin and low in volume.

Low in volume? Is that compared to your other creations?

Webber Afterburner, Fatburner & Spoon

Has anyone tried any of these designs? I was looking at them on the racks in a shop the other day and whilst I have never bought a stock board the bottom concaves looked quite interesting. Someone did tell me though that these are mass produced in Thailand or China and there are quality problems occ...

Re: Tom Curren '93 J Bay best surfing footage ever?

Doubt if it was the best surfing ever recorded.......but, f##k, it was bloody good. Watched it on the original Search vid in 94' which was enough to inspire me to go to J Bay in 95'.......... Was that the one where Curren does the one-footed, layback tailslide thing on an 8 foot wave? I distinctly ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I did make it out of the city, to a place I'll call "Bert's (old) backyard". Fattest, most gutless waves in the west, but I still like it for the down the line speed you can get when they line up. I haven't surfed there yet, I've heard it needs a swell like yesterday to start lining up? I've been t...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I reckon I could be a good surfer if I had access to good waves. But I don't, and I'm not. I got one today at dirty water/stinking air wedge place that was really good. Wave lined up, I got lots of speed, section loomed and I pulled an air/floater thing, bit more speed and a big 180° cutback/snap t...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I did the mission down to Black Point maybe 15 years ago. I haven't lived in WA for nearly 7 - 8 years now but in those days it was the full 4WD mission to get to. Really isolated, demanding wave and if you want to talk periphery sharks, that is the place! But from what I hear, it's rarely crowded. ...

Re: Hawaii in October?

My guess for what it's worth: The philippines are having a pretty weak year typhoon-wise, and since early season Hawaii depends on Philippine typhoons going extra tropical and flaring up near Japan, I reckon Oct in Hawaii will be pretty bitty. But fark, maybe you're not after crazy 12-15' bombing W...

Hawaii in October?

Got two weeks off in early October and its my turn to pick the destination and I'm thinking its time to try Hawaii. A lttle concerned though that it's too early for North Shore and too late for the south side, anyone have any thoughts? And if I will get dudded for waves, anyone got a warm water sugg...

I used to do a "Yoga for surfers" routine in the North Steyne club house and this did amazing things for my flexibility. The big benefit I used to see out of it was an increased (albeit slight) chance of recovering from doubtful turn.

Re: Surfing Super LEague is GO!

Yeah good point Podge, I will be very interested to see what waves they choose for the tour. They are saying 8 events - May to September, so no Hawaiian event? Mostly southern hemisphere waves? May - Shipwreck Bay, New Zealand June - Margaret River, Australia June - J-Bay, South Africa July - Hollo...
