Re: Just general surfing stuff
Ha ha no Drailed my intentions were good, despite knowing no good deed goes unpunished. She was at the point post surf lessons where you start to tentatively join the line-up on small days or give it away. Maybe I had incorrectly assumed that though in retrospect from what she'd told me. I haven't t...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I've seen/heard women treated poorly in the surf. I don't know if there is a wider issue re women getting hassled in the surf. I surf mainly in about 3-4 places on the northern beaches and there are few if any women out when I'm out. A few years back an adult woman learner told me she drifted into a...

Re: Teahupoo Contest
I somewhat agree with the boring as batshit for the non surfer view point. I get it - feel the same way about a lot of sports including surfing sometimes. But I also feel there is a real lack of imagination here. As obscene on multiple levels as it is...the wave pool stadium potentially could offer ...

Re: Epoxy Mals
Shaunm please stop there... I would have hair but the wife won't sanction a combover (ala Norman Gunston) - me I think it would complete the picture and elevate my status in any lineup. The M's not big enough either, it needs to be the size of the signage on a McDonalds drive through, and some frang...

Re: Epoxy Mals
Yeah I have a 9’6 epoxy McTavish. Duck diving anything of substance is an issue even though I’m up at the 100 kg’s. As spork notes, horses for courses. 9 foot plus of epoxy has allowed me to surf in conditions I couldn’t have otherwise on my other board(s) (i.e. small and fat waves) and have a good ...

On behalf of the great unwashed, the lurkers…well actually scrap that, we are a disreputable lot. Anyway this lurker be happy to chip in, over the years been happy to drink from the cup of wisdom (and drivel) that is the real surf forums. Hell I could even challenge the one they call Grooter to an e...

Re: getting old, dont want struggle on a shorty
Amen Beanpole. Intend to go well beyond the log back to the beginning, before the end. They can drag my wrinkly hide from the surf clutching a piece of foam or something before I call it a day. (though understand Oldman's preference might be to go straight from short boards to the body bash foamy st...

Re: Surf lessons
I'd agree with that observation even in more heavily populated areas ctd, maybe not to the same extent but its there... At a distance there's a dichotomy there for the most part, its either beginners OR folks who may not necessarily be termed advanced, but certainly appear comfortably confident in a...

Re: Ask Carroll
Met an old surfer a while back, who I'd know when I was a kid and I asked him had he been out recently, got amongst etc. He replied that he'd stopped surfing in the last couple of years at about 68, (still an impressive knock). The reason, something along the lines...I can't even remember. Maybe it ...

Re: Pope Bisect Board
Thanks for the reply Otway.
Glad to hear its had some longevity, but noting the care you’ve taken with it and the sparing way in which you’ve used it. (the drawstring bag sounds quite fetching)
Have a good trip to Taiwan – (hope to see your thoughts on Taiwan on rs)

Re: Pope Bisect Board
Hey Otway, don't know if you're about but just wondering how the Bisect was holding up a few years on? Are the dog clips, centre tube etc still hanging together without any wobble issues?
