Re: Single fin shortboards

Had some great singlefin shortboards over the last ten years and the one thing that they all had in common was a good combo of single concave into double/spiral vee out the back. For me, the forward or centre widepoint is still an important feature, too. Had a McCoy Nugget single fin shortie, a 6'0"...

Re: G-Land

Hit G-land between 11th and 13th May. 1st day was almost 4 times overhead on Launching Pads and rolling into huge Speedies. My 6'8 felt tiny on the very few waves I actually tried paddling into.... Wind was also cross/onshore, making it all a bit sketchy as well :? BTW - this ain't me! http://grajag...

I've seen a few in the water of late - brittish wetsuits anyone? C-skins are pretty good and share some similar designs to X...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Blutac has saved my bacon over the last dozen years or so....

The water in the UK isn't as cold as you may think, but the wind is a fecker in the winter. It's the wind that destroys wet ears.

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

All gone a bit quiet on the Zot front eh? I've been hoping that we would see more video and pics by now, but it's still all a bit thin on the ground, especially for the smaller versions. However, I did find this little sequence on this Japanese site: http://www.m-fiberglass.com/pg210.html It's an ok...

Re: Bells this year ?

I dig Ando's surfing, pretty unique. Can understand how crew hate Ozzie too, but I remember seeing him get a sick barrel at Kandui which was just so long it was a joke.... So, I'm not too keen to say that anyone is overrated as I think there's an element of personal taste when looking at these thing...

Re: Bells this year ?

Point scoring moves will only serve to produce more contest machines who show little on the way of flair of individuality I reckon.... It's a dangerous progression. In fact, there may be some argument to be made for relaxing the criteria further to allow even more for individual style and approach. ...

Re: Six channels

Had a couple of Tony Dempsey channel bottoms that went unreal, a 6'4" and a 6'8". Would love another if I got the chance.

Personally, I didn't find any issue in bumpy waves above and beyond what I would have had on a single to double. I also found that I liked smaller fins in general on both boards.

Re: G-Land

Just getting the quiver sorted.... I'll have a 6'1 quad and a 6'5 Lynch Widowmaker, but not sure whether to take a 6'8 mt.woodgee channel bottom or a 7'4 bonzer. Ordinarily the 6'8 would be the biggest board I would take to indo, but a few crew are claiming the gun is the go, particularly for the pa...

Re: How to pigdog

There's a couple of other anomalies... Neal P's weird 'over the edge' with the back knee/whole back leg method and Jamie O'Bs parallel stance thing. Both advancements on basic methods I guess.. A friend of mine swears by grabbing the rail just in front of the back foot - really far back. Doesn't wor...

Re: How to pigdog

Gotta say that pigdogging is my nemesis....

I've had a few knee ops on my back leg and it always feels so vulnerable.

Any tips on 'protecting' your back leg in pigdogs?

Re: G-Land

Well, it's green-for-go. Flying out on the 7th May for 10 days and hoping to squeeze a quick 3-day in at G-land. Hoping to stay at Bobby's and make the booking while on Bali, once we know what the swell is doing. However, I don't know if it is worth booking in advance to make sure we get the rooms -...

Re: Portugal Pro

Supertubos! I remember that wave and it is indeed super fun. When I surfed it (in the 90s  ) there was a fish factory just up the road. Man that place STANK! Wonder if it's still there. I had to leave town after a few days cause I couldnt handle the smell, even on the beach. Yes mate, still t...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Just picked up an 2011 season 5/3 Gooru for a hundred quid. Hoping to use it as a back-up to my West 5/3 Lotus Airo this coming winter. The 3/2 normally comes off some time in November for me, depending on how cold it is, then a 4/3 will see me through to the New Year before it gets super-cold, but ...
