Re: Get this!
We are talking about the fin boxes, which do not... unless some devious and sloppy installer f*cked it up by grinding the top off... of course fins which are hacked out of a 9mm or 10mm panel in 20 minutes with a disc grinder as they typically in the name of 'hand made' have no flange... with this ...

Re: Get this!
Mr Mik has posted that you are also making a gull wing fin for him, I suggest that you do your job and I'll do mine. I usually make a fin with a slightly oversized base with each McCoy blank. That's so Geoff's fin guy can foil & fit the fin perfectly to the board......no egg on face so far (touch w...

Re: Get this!
Also , a common problem is test fitting fins (also hand made fins) in a box that's not actually installed in a board , and assuming that it will fit ? .....in any case , altering the fin to suite the board is often required , and not at all uncommon when fins are bought separate from the purchase of...

Re: Get this!
No you didn't.....a 3D printing machine made it.....perhaps that's where the problem lies.... I suggest checking you fin bases to make sure they're not too deep.....all off-the shelf fins have similar problems from time to time.Roy_Stewart wrote: ... keep in mind that you didn't make the fin whereas I did.

Re: Get this!
It's normal procedure to fit fin boxes correctly, rather than incompetently exotherming them out of the board and then trying to cover it up by grinding a huge amount off the top of the box. As it is now, the fin will fit any board carrying a single fin box with the possible rare exception of those...

Re: Get this!
Hi Kayu, Besides, the aft end of the tab is held in it's vertical position by the pin and slot. sanding it down will make no difference. . The cross pin hole needs to be filled and/or redrilled......in short , the fin should be fitted to the board , and not vice-versa......this is normal proceedure...

Re: Get this!
Mik , you may be able to grind a bit off the bottom of the tabs , rather than build up the bottom of the fin base ?

Re: Get this!
Do you have another board with a central single fin box? The best bet would be to put it in a board which has an unaltered fin box. Fin boxes are manufactured dead straight , and surfboard tails are rarely straight , if ever........not an uncommon problem when using slide boxes ...more so on boards...

You should start a "hand porn" thread Matticus , so people could post pics of their hands - probably in Logs,Eggs & Alternatives , not General Discussions.....Matticus Finch wrote:You have beautiful hands Roy.

I should add, for me, it's like losing an uncle or something. I dunno if anyone else has that sense. It might be generational. ...exactly how I feel..... My father never voted Labor in his life (or so he said) , but he did say that under Gough's government , he had the most profitable business year...

Re: Get this!
Scary isn't it! Nah, the china thing is a finite resource and the surfboard manufacturer of the future will have a his printer out the back, along with a massive investment in new tech. He will ask if you want a set of boards with similar specs to suit 2' -3' - 4' - 6' waves. The same basic board t...

Re: Get this!
Current technology with blank suppliers blowing shapes and shapers uploading designs on to a CNC cutting machine will eventually disappear. The printed blank of the future will be 100% accurate to the designers plan, in fact the whole board will be printed with rails, fins, leggy plug, rocker, plan...

Re: Get this!
The best machine copied boards Ive ever seen come off Mike Cundith's old pantograph in Byron Bay ....this was years before the KKL was set up in town. That machine produced a dead accurate copy of any plug that was used. Far more labour intensive than a CNC cut , but deadly accurate and true to the ...
