Nearly drowned myself on two separate occasions in big top-to-bottom surf at DY point after losing my board. Both times were after having had the flu and, in my enthusiasm to catch one last ride, staying out too long. I only just got in. I had absolutely nothing left. If I’d been caught by the rip a...

Triple overhead, but that was almost 16 years ago. These days my max would be a couple of feet overhead tops, and that would be assuming I'm fit which I'm not at the moment due to a nagging shoulder injury. Heck, I haven't even been wet for almost three months. Suffering major withdrawal symptoms. :x

Mate, you're being rather polite about this. I had some mid-teens chick do the same thing to me on a 5-6 foot day at South Steyne last year, and it took a chunk out of the bridge of my nose. Could easily have been an eye. Getting bounced off your board in the duckdive by the lip I can forgive...

:? Well that depends on the legal system and how much you trust it :?: JD just got off and how many charges did he have against him :?: I'm not sure I'd say "got off": there was a guilty plea to several of the charges. However, I'm less impressed than ever with the police. They didn't do the basic ...

Hey, St Nicholas, being the old and wise head you are, do you have any suggestions for applying the above to annoying teenage daughters?

She insists on looking over my shoulder attempting to read this thread as I'm cracking up.

KK - keep it coming!

Right about now I'd settle for any part of the wave. Haven't been wet for 6-7 weeks. It's been a combination of working stupid hours and being too fatigued to even think about it, then getting sick on a Friday from being so run down from said work schedule, and then finally slapping my pushbi...

I think the only thing that will stop me being a surfer is father time. I can't imagine being physically able to surf a long board in my 90's. Say that to Tom Kirsop. I dare ya!  He's at least middle 70's in the shade, and regularly disappears for sufing jaunts to the Maldives and other ...

Did anyone see that doco on the ABC earlier in the week on David Hicks vs George W Bush? It was a very interesting "road story" of David Hicks' father travelling to the middle east to find out what happened to his son and then on to Guantanimo Bay to try to see him. It was intercut with readings fro...

Sure, the guy ought to be encouraged to follow his dreams. No doubting that. But it's not just about raw ability. Take a look at Davo. Raw ability in oodles. But he's a sponsor's nightmare because of his character. Can't keep his aggression in check. Besides, I wasn't talking only about sponsorship....

I can tell you one thing kid don't ask a bunch of kooks online how to get sponsored they only know how to correct english, not surf. The advice about spelling is not as way off the mark as you think. my grandpa once said a true genuis is someone who can simplify the most complex of topics. Wasn't it Einstein that said things should should be simplified as much as possible - but not more? There's simple - and simplistic. Dawkins' tactic is old and well-tried: set up a straw man, and then knock h...
