mastery is about setting appropriate goals and hitting them. It's not getting to the point where you know everything. I'd find that rather demotivating. Not wanting to sound too bs guru but...why not try a definition of the term... True mastery's about awareness, not knowledge.... Yeh, sorry: I thi...

I don't think many of the comparisons of sports at elite level here are valid at all. What drives the excellence gap beween average and elite level is the level of competition and motivation, some of which is driven by economics. Take motor racing. Most mature adults in Western society can drive a c...

DY Point earlier this year in triple-to-quad overhead swell. Guy stands on rocks with two-sizes-too-small gath helmet, brightly coloured 80's style springy and what looked like a 6'6" to 6'8" rounded pintail - at least a foot and half too small to be paddling into waves with on that day. He's standi...

I had a chat to him in the car park about them about 2 months ago. It's a new product offering he's working on, but the issue is getting suitable fins to suit boards for guys who are smaller than his 6'4" 100kg frame. He's working with FCS to resolve the gap.

Couldn't agree more that throwing money at the problems experienced by our indigenous cousins won't solve anything. In fact, it will usually make thigns worse. Money is like petrol. It won't make a bad business idea into a good one. Unless the engine is put together right, all you'll do is burn a lo...

1: Get a double-swivel one with the moulded bit that holds it out straight from your ankle. 2: if you're a natural-footer (left foot forward), when you put it on your RIGHT ankle make sure that the bit that holds it out from your ankle points out at the half-past-four position. 3: If goofy (right fo...

Like in most "professions", you get a spread of good bad and indifferent. If you get picked up on some tiny infringement and booked to the letter of the law, most times it will be some zealous youngster. The older, more experienced ones are more likely to let that sort of thing go, preferring to exp...

Started boogering in my very early 20's and got bored with it inside 12 months. Unless it was head high or over I found it just didn't do it for me any more. Took me 12 months of struggling with a too-small board before I could stand up. :? Trying ot get bigger boards secondhand back then was...

Kill switches definitely help put an end to joy riding days . Excellent advice, kreepster. I had a crack at moulding a fibreglass replacement key after my first metal surf key corroded away, but found it wasn't going to be anywhere near strong enough to survive either the torque load of turning the...

WSR, you've missed the point and ethos of this forum right there. This "place" is about sharing views and debating and chewing the fat - a "forum". Now I'm sorry if I've jumped on your experiment from a great height, but it just seems like most of your posts to date have been for the purpose of spru...
